I am starting mid Feb so it would be interesting to hear how you get on.
4Posted Wed 1 Feb 2012 17.06 by pam_06 (edited Sun 6 Mar 2016 05.41 by pam_06) Had it for years, fortunately only mildly. Worst on my head.
I had UVB treatment years ago when my psoriasis first appeared and flared up pretty badly. I have to say it's the best treatment I've had for it, it cleared it right up. As I say it was years ago so I can't actually remember how long I was there for.
One benefit is you get a nice tan under controlled conditions :P Hope it goes well for u.

Thanks pam_06 - it's so reassuring to know it cleared it up for you. Have to say I'm pretty new to this psoriasis lark and still coming to terms with it.
Bring on the tan ;-)

I had uv treatment 2 years ago. I had it full body and full scalp. I had my treatment every 2 days for 2 months and it cleared it all up. It's back again and I'm making an appointment for the dermatologist to see if I can get another course of treatment as mine is bad again as the creams, olis and lotions are not helping me at all.
Posted Thu 2 Feb 2012 12.19 by Ricscott I suffer with it severely.
One thing id suggest is be patient and do what the nurses say, it works but requires a bit of effort to accomodate, such as clearing the scaly bits before you UV because the light can't penetrate the scale.
One thing I failed to do after a very successful UV course a few years back was to keep on top of the after-treatments of curataderm and reg moisturizer and my p ended up coming back twice as bad.

Hi,
I had UVB treatment years ago and that's what cleared up most of my psoriasis. It is working quite quickly after you start so that's really great. But as soon as you stop it will come back as usual! It is much better now - I used to be covered on more than 75% of my body surface and now I only have my scalp, a patch on my leg and a few spots here and there.
I would definitely advise anyone who can do it to go for it, especially for as Pam says, it is a good way to have a nice tan! ;)

I have finished light treatment at Christmas. This was my 2nd course of light treatment the first being summer 2010. The treatment is great and clears it up :) but regrettably it has started to come back once again. Also at first you are only in there for a few seconds and you think this is never going to work but it dose and the time increases . I now am on tablets to help me now (acitretin)

Hello! I have lifelong psoriasis and have had 3 courses of UVA and one UVB treatment in my life (I am 21 now).
Only last week did I finish my most recent course of UVA, which only took 5 weeks to clear it up, with 16 UV sessions and coaltar everyday (not the most pleasant). I am really making sure to stay on top of my aftercare this time, as Riscott mentioned, moisturising at least twice a day.
One thing I have taken time to do this time which I never have before, is to find a makeup brand that is best for my skin. As a young lady I know how difficult it can be to have psoriasis on your face, and unfortunately, its the only place you cant cover up! I don't wear makeup everyday, but if I do I like to use Clinique.
From my experiences in hospital, I have learned that if you are not happy with something the doctors/nurses are doing with your skin, you have to tell them, after all, it's not their skin they are treating!

I had UVB treatment a couple of years ago. 3 times a week for 8 weeks. Full body. It cleared most of it, not much effect on my legs though I understand that's not unusual. P started to come back about a month after finishing, but has never come back as bad as it was.
One thing, while doing the treatment do keep your skin moisturised, I found it dried out my skin badly which caused it to start itching badly.

hi.... im also a long term sufferer from p and get it really bad sometimes then it may clear for a while.... never completly though! i was on light therpy but due to unfortunate reasons i was discharged as i missed alot of my appoinments due to a breivement in the family, however i was only on it for a month 3 times a week and it WORKS!!!! my skin totally cleared to the stage where for the first time in years i felt comfortable enough to have my legs out (and of course the tan helped with that too :) )
And as for the scalp problem when i was about 15 i went to a hairdressers to have my hair cut explained that i had p in my scalp and they used a shampoo by kerastase for dry flakey scalp and i have been buying it ever since..... dont get me wrong i have a few flakes here and there but i can now have my hair down without worring my shoulders are gone look like someone had emptyed a poy of salt on them... so give it a go... it is pricey though ots about £15 a pop but soooo worth it if it works :)

Posted Wed 25 Jul 2012 19.32 by lynn79 have to be careful of clothing I wear, lotions and potions I use and fed up of the staring and silly questions, even those asked by healthca
After years of suffering (more than 30) and using various lotions and potions and being referred to various specialists, I finally had UV therapy just over 2 years ago. I attended twice a week fr 17 weeks. I had to ensure I did not miss any sessions as missing more than two I would have been removed from the programme. The timing under UV lights increases with each session and dependant on how the skin tolerates the rays. I was so impressed with the effect, it was the first time I had ever been plaque free. As with the nature of psoriasis this was fairly short lived and it has only been recently that the coverage has become fairly extensive, however a trip abroad with plenty of sunshine has done wonders for my skin. Downside is that the specialist/healthboard have stated that I can only have one course of this treatment.

Hi everyone,
I had my first dose of PUVA last Friday following 8 weeks of UVB - the UVB worked well and cleared up quite a bit of it. The PUVA is a different matter, first dose on Friday (6 days ago) and by Sunday evening was in hospital being treated for severe burns - got let out today (Wednesday) - please be very careful with PUVA - IT CAN GO WRONG. I have been photographed etc as a text book case of what can go wrong.
Still in a lot of pain - blisters, swelling etc.
Take care everyone.

Hello all, this is my first post. My wife has Psoriasis, back of head and now coming on hands! Could you carry out the UV light treatment at home, yourself? or does it need to be done professionally? I am trying to help her with this condition as I feel so useless at the minute. Any help appreciated.

I had the uv treatment in hospital over a 2 month period. It was a pain having to travel in and out t the hospital every 3 days, but the treatment cleared my skin for a few months. Then i decided to try a sunbed every now and again to treat it myself. I am completely free from my neck down for many years now. Obviously there are dangers with sunbeds, so i wouldn't promote their use, but for me, it was worth it, to live a normal life, and not dread meeting new people and having to explain what these lesions allover me are. I still have it on my scalp, ears and sometimes on my face, but i can usually keep that under control.

I have had UVB treatment a couple of times, and it did help. The big draw back is I had to attend hospital 3 times a week for about 8 weeks, so it kind of takes over your life - having to take time off work and trudge all of the way into town. The sessions are very short, my first one was 15 seconds! and gradually build up over the treatment period (have to get your skin used to it so you do not burn, and as I burn easily had to take it steady) My last treatment I think was 1 minute 30 seconds. Gradually you see a good effect, and my psoriasis became very flat and smooth and a lighter pink - this was great, and it kept at bay for a couple of months but then cam e back as bad as ever. I am a bit dubious about keep having it done often, because of the skin cancer risk, but ever few years it can be beneficial. If the hospital was closer to home I would be more likely to consider it, but as I said, during that treatment period, it takes over your life!
