Right standard opening as I too am new posting to this site. Ive joined a few times before but never posted, just read and dispaired at the lack of treatments that actually have any lasting effects. Ive had p for around 22years and was hospitalised twice in the early days. And on that note light treatment really does work! Anyway Ive always found Dovobet very effective at dealing with outbreaks, although more so in summer. Which could mean it is in fact the sun that is doing the good work! In the past I only used Dovobet for a couple of months which would clear my body and arms (guttate) then I would leave it and just accept my legs were a lost cause. However I have now been using Dovobet pretty much continuously for nearly 3 years and I tried to stop using it around 4 months ago and suffered a massive flare up. My doctor discounted any rebound effect (I have moved from the area where my previous doctor referred me) so I continued using it after using betnovate to control flare up. Now I know I should not be using Dovobet for this length of time so I have stopped again and am suffering a guttate flare up but much less severe. What I really want to know is- Are there any medical guidelines governing treatment duration of Dovobet? also as a side note does anyone know the name of the throat infection that can cause outbreaks of Guttate p? If anyone is still reading at this point fair play, I just read back through my post and my god most of it is waffle. Answers to my questions would be appreciated.

Regarding Dovobet, you're not supposed to use it completely continuously- my doctor told me to use Dovobet when psoriasis was at it's worst, and use Mometasone ointment (less strong steroid) for less severe flare ups- it works ok for me.Good luck!

Thanks for reply, I will speak to my doctor regarding other steroid ointment. Just wondering what cream/ointment to use day to day on my shins and elbows when p stable?
Posted Mon 2 Dec 2013 20.35 by Amandine Plaque Psoriasis since childhood, now nail psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, eye problems, the full monty really!
After 20 years being palmed off with dermovate, betnovate and all the other '-vates', I finally got prescribed Dovobet a few years ago and it was transforming. I am supposed to use it only during a flare-up, then as it subsides use betnovate, then in between a good moisturiser. However, as soon as I stop using the Dovobet it flares up as bad as ever within 2 days. To be honest, I think when it gets to that stage its time to ask your doctor to refer you to a skin specialist - I should have been referred years ago and now have aggressive psoriatic arthritis, but my surgery is a teaching practice that prefers to refer 'within'.

I am just about to give up on Dovobet. I have had Psoriasis for over 20 years and Dovobet has always been the most effective treatment. However, I keep getting conflicting advice regarding how much to use. The recommendation is no more than 15g per day. However, this amount would be enough to treat both of my arms but not enough for my legs and torso as well. The manufacturers are only producing it in 30g tubes now. I used to get two 120g tubes but my doctor now will only give me four of the 30g tubes. To be honest, that is a waste of time. The last dermatologist I saw said it was OK to use Dovobet long term provided I gave myself a break every now and then. My doctor has overruled that and so the amount I can get now would only last two days if I treated all of my psoriasis. I have therefore given up on it.
Posted Wed 25 Jun 2014 21.43 by alirolls Mainly have scalp psoriasis with patches on my trunk.
I try to stay away from the steroid base lotions and potions and I use dovonex ointment it also comes in a cream but I find its not as good as ointment. Comes in very similar packaging to dovobet but is blue and asypu mentioned i now can only get 30g tubes so am constantly putting prescriptions in! I have used this for years on my body and my hair line to ensure I break down the plaque on my scalp and I also use dovobet gel once or twice a week on my scalp to keep it under control.

I was told to stop Dovabet very slowly as just stopping can cause flare ups .
Posted Sun 29 Jun 2014 16.11 by Andrew1 I was diagnosed with the condition in 2007.
use the dovobet when the itching is bad and when the scars are sore and itchy.
wash daily with DOUBLEBASE GEL or DIPBROBASE cream. it helps to keep the skin moist. dont let your skin get overdry thats what makes it itch.
Ask your doctor for a small tube of cream to carry with you - I take some to work and if it itches I nip into the loo and put some on - it takes the edge off it.
Posted Thu 30 Apr 2015 15.57 by Libby Had guttate psoriasis three times, each taking many months to clear. The last flare up became plaque psoriasis which has worsened for 15 yea
Tonsillitis, or strep throat, causes guttate psoriasis. You probably need your tonsils out. I had mine out in my 30s after my third massive guttate flare. My health has improved dramatically since then. Sadly, however, my last guttate flare never fully cleared and turned into plaque psoriasis, which I've been struggling with ever since.
Posted Tue 16 Jun 2015 00.38 by Peter S I have psoriasis on about 1/3 of my body...have had it for over 10 years and its getting worse.
I initially tried Dovobet a year ago, but because the 30g bottle is quite small I didn't use it every day as 1/3 of my body has psoriasis...and nothing happened. When I told my doctor this, I was given a larger prescription...two 60g bottles...and it has led to amazing improvement in just a week of applying every day.
Calcipotriol ( one of the two ingredients of Dovobet ) on its own had zero effect. It seems to be only the combination of it and the steroid that works for me. I have also used the gel on my scalp...rather messy but I only need to comb the tiniest amount in for it to have huge effect....as my scalp used to covered in a thick layer of crud all the time and its gone now.
The thing with Dovobet is you should not use it continuously for long periods, but when used every day for a week or so it can be very effective

Incidentally.....regarding the use of a lotion with a steroid, for those of us who simply can't help picking the psoriasis scabs its probably less harmful overall than all that constant picking. I got my forehead almost raw removing the crud...which would be back within half a day. Dovobet has completely stopped the scabs...though as it has a steroid I don't intend to use it for months on end.

I'm having psoriasis for about 8 years now. I'm from Sri Lanka. 1/2 of my body covers it now. I also did everything that I can do, even the ayurvedic treatments. I started having fat liver and blood sugar on it.For me divobet works well. but in my country it cost a lot. government don't support on this. so I use it by mixing with petrolatum gel. try it.

Even if you have a tonsillectomy, you can still get strep throat, which is the trigger for most people, as I discovered recently after a 7 year remission post-tonsillectomy.
Unfortunately, Dovobet remains the first line treatment for psoriasis and dermatologists are reluctant to skip this first step and jump straight to phototherapy, which is evidenced to be a safer and more effective form of treatment. Despite much protest, I agreed to use Dovobet (again) knowing I would rebound once I stopped, even after weaning. I really think dermatologists need to review the use of potent steroid creams that carry a litany of side-effects and only work as a short-term solution. In my experience, Dovobet only masks the problem and leaves your skin worse than it was before you started using it.
