Advice on using steroids and avoiding the rebound effect
Posted Tue 14 Nov 2017 20.06 by dai
Does anyone have any experience with using steroids and getting a violent rebound after discontinuing?
In my experience I have found dovobet to be a very effective steroid, but everytime I've used it in the past, when the plaques have mostly cleared I have stopped suddenly only to have a violent rebound a few days later which often causes plaque to grow in size as well as severity.
My doctor however has once again prescribed dovobet and betnovate, but told me that I should begin slowly weaning myself off to avoid rebound.
I'm still very wary of using these, does anyone have any experience / advice for avoiding rebound with steroid creams?

Hi Dai. When coming off topical steroids such as Dovobet and Betnovate, I've tended to apply them every other day for a couple of weeks, then twice a week for a couple of weeks, and then stop altogether. Although the psoriasis came back after a couple of weeks in most cases, it wasn't any worse than it was before.
