Definitely one of those "everyone's different" things I think, as personally Snake Oil bars did nothing for me, I tried everything - Tgel, tea tree formulas, all sorts... then the doc prescribed Alphosyl (2in1 shampoo, though I don't believe the conditioning claims, my hair feels very rough without conditioner after this!) which I love and keeps it way down from what it naturally is. My doctors seem unwilling to prescribe it now though? They seem fixated on giving me ointments which just aren't practical for me.

Hi everyone, I've been using Diprosalic on prescription and t-gel for years on and off but recently my scalp got a lot worse - very red with huge flakes. I wandered in Sally hair & beauty supplies to see if they had a scalp moisturiser. They recommended AVLON KERACARE shampoo & conditioner for dry & itchy scalps and it's worked wonders. It's an anti-dandruff product (I've tried other products with terrible results before). You leave both products on for 5 minutes before rinsing really well. I also bought the scalp glossifier (same brand) which I've been applying before bed a couple of times a week. I still have the odd small flake but the redness has completely disappeared. Such a relief to find a product that's nice to use and kind on my hair too!

Hi All,
For the past few months as the psoriasis on my scalp has been getting worse, I've frequently read various forums and picked up suggestions but never offered any myself. Now that I've found something that is working (so far!) I thought it was time I join in the discussion.
I've had psoriasis on my scalp for approximately 10 years, sometimes really bad and sometimes almost non existent but for some reason it has become increasingly worse over the past six months. As many others have, I've tried a variety of thing, some of which have worked initially and then stopped working, some which have not worked at all and some that have made it worse. Here's what I've tried:
Alphosyl

I'm sure there are probably more which I can't remember off the top of my head. I'd been putting off going to my GP because I thought it was disgusting and didn't want someone looking at my head! Eventually I had to go for another reason and thought I may as well mention it while I was there. Firstly, he didn't treat me like I was disgusting which was a bonus! Secondly, he prescribed me Sebco ointment and said to use it for 7 days running and then once a week there after. So far I have used it for 3 days and I can honestly say I can't remember the last time my scalp felt this good.
Luckily, my fiancé doesn't think I'm disgusting either and helps me to apply it. We put it on in sections (each time uses about half a tube, I might be using too much) and leave it for an hour. Then we rinse it out and wash my hair with Johnson's Baby Shampoo and then use Johnson's Baby Conditioner making sure to massage it into the scalp to moisturise it. My fiancé then combs through my hair when wet with a nit comb (one of the best purchases I've made) and then I blow dry it in sections making sure its dried properly.
As I said, it might stop being effective in the future but for now its really making a difference and I feel a bit more normal again!

I found diprosalic acid good. Dovebet gel also helped. I use emulsiderm or olive oil to soak the scalp and wash off with Capasal shampoo. The sister in the hospital who is very experienced recommended soaking scalp in Olive oil over night. I cannot sleep with a cap on at night but worth trying if you can.

I currently have 4 items on prescription. Dobovet gel which clears away all flakes immediately but not able to use every day as I have to leave it on over night and don't always get time to wash my hair before work in the morning. I also use Alphosal shampoo every time I wash my hair but this appears to do nothing to be honest! I'm also trying diprosalic ointment which literally greases my hair up to the max so I have given up with that one. Finally I have sebco which like the Dobovet clears all flakes away immediately but the coal tar aroma makes me go light headed! I have taken to putting up with the itchiness and soreness until I can use the Dobovet gel which I try to se twice per week. Which relieves me for a few days. I am going to try some of the things suggested below including the lush snake oil and will see how it goes!

Hi to all you fellow Psoriasis sufferers.
i have had Psoriasis on my scalp since age 9 and now being (uh hum) 35 you can imagine i've tried more products than the local chemists' supply!
Though after visiting my local hairdresser she suggested a TREMENDOUS products from Aveda called 'Scalp Benefits'. Completely natural product(s) with plant extracts and all that jazz. Me being a bit sceptical, i thought yerrr sure!! ....but i tried it for a few months and WOW what a huge difference it has made! In 26 yrs i have never completely cleared my scalp psoriasis and this product has cleared it completely. The down side is that it's quite pricey but thats no hardship when you have suffered for so many yrs plus one bottle lasts for many months as you only need a tiny amount. It is cheaper to buy online through the 'Aveda' website. BIG result is that it doesnt contain coal tar so you dont have to walk about smelling like a creosoted shed!! Really hope this helps others too like it has for me! Happy descaling!! ;o) x

I am using products by Nioxin recommended to me by hairdresser it consists of shampoo, conditioner a scalp treatment and you can also get a hair booster if you are having problems with hair loss. These products can be used everytime you wash your hair and no having to sit around waiting for the product to sink in. I have been free for six months now. There is a web site for this product.

Hi, I have had psoriasis in the bottom region of my scalp since i was about 10 (now almost 26). Over the years I have been prescribed many things by my GP that to be honest never have really worked and always had an awful stench to them! I have been on Dovobet now for about 6 months, this stuff is really good, i apply it at night and then wash it off in the morning and each time I find that it near enough completly eliminates the excessive skin cells on the affected area. Also have never been able to really find anything high street wise that will help, only Dovobet has really ever done anything to help but can only be purchased through your GP.
Also in regards to shampoo, a very good one I have used is a Tea Tree shampoo by Paul Mitchell, is very good yet as always quite expensive!

Sebco is the only thing that seems to work for my daughter (aged 6 with plaque psoriasis) - we put it on the patches before bed and wash her hair in the morning. Someone else mentioned Capasal - I used to hate the smell, but I took a break from it and I love it. I've been using it everyday for about 6 months and I've noticed a huge difference in my scalp - no real build ups of scale.
Sadly it means my scalp is all the more flaky, so as everyone here knows - moisturiser on over night (conditioner on the tips overnight is an added bonus I find - makes my hair so soft!) (And I keep a nit comb in case of bad flakes I need to get out. Not blow-drying my hair frequently also helps)
A quick question - I've had a bald patch from my Psoriasis for about 4 years now - I'm able to change my parting to cover it, however I find it restrictive and it makes me self-concious. Does anyone have any ideas/is it possible for my hair to regrow?

Hi, Just discovered Ketoconazol Cinfa 2% gel from Spain.
After suffering on and off with body psoriosis for 10 yrs i'ts moved on to the scalp and this stuff works much better than Polytar (ran around every shop in the UK to find it in a panic without a bottle remaining) but i'm glad because Tar based shampoos are a bit smelly/thick and this one is pink & runny so it can get into all the scalp nooks. It has had dramatic results for me and i've only used it a handful of times, but the itching is gone completely unlike Tgel etc which works at first but you get immune. Cheap too at only 2.60euros for 100ml. So if you know anyone going on holiday this summer its good to pick a bottle up at the Pharmacia. I recommend it and will be buying more.

I have never posted anything to one of these websites but i feel i have to share this with fellow scalp sufferers. After having suffered psoriasis for 38 years my scalp has never been worse. I have tried every lotion under the sun from my GP and my scalp has never been completely cleared. UNTIL i found Lush Superbalm scalp treatment. Now i may be talking too soon but i used it last night and today i still have no scales on my scalp. I'm usually left with some. I washed it off with Lush Trichomania solid shampoo (strange but lovely) and the balm came off with one wash. It doesn't stink and the products are made with natural ingredients. It wasn't too messy to use and i only left it on my scalp for about an hour. Much less hassle than any treatment i've had from the GP. I feel its so easy to use i could use it 2-3 times a week. It was always a chore to use Sebco, Cocois etc and i always had to leave it overnight then get up about 2 hours early to make sure it was washed out before going to work. Fingers crossed i've found the perfect solution.

Hi there,
I have only just joined up, so quite late coming to this thread - but I used Exorex shampoo a couple of years ago, and that got rid of the scalp psoriasis. The lotion got rid of various other patches too, but sadly they're back with a vengeance.....not the scalp though.

Hi
I've been suffering from scalp problems for about six months, resulting in really distressing hair loss - really distressing. Before it was formally diagnosed, I was almost controlling it myself with Mama Nature's Seb Derm oil but this soothed and cleared the scalp but the hair loss, although slower, continued. I was eventually diagnosed with ps and prescribed Calcipotiol by the Dermatologist. In reply to bizabella's question over baldy patches, my hair receded at the sides of my hairline (quite startlingly). The derm told me that the prescription (steroid) would clear up any remaining scales and encourage growth. That was two months ago and I now have little tufts of growth (about an inch) at the sides of y remaining fringe. My hairdresser also told me to massage, massage, massage, so I now warm black seed oil, pumpkin oil, cactus & garlic oil, sweet almond oil, coconut, jojoba, aloe vera & rosemary oil (!) concoctions , sometimes all together, sometimes I just mix two or three together or I just use the black seed oil (from Asian supermarkets - where they are cheaper than the same products on ebay!) and massage my head (particularly the spots that were baldy) and leave on overnight. I do this 2 - 3 times a week .... and keep hoping that I'm getting something right and the tufts keep growing!
Good luck everyone!

Having suffered with psoriasis for more than 40 years particularly on face and scalp, but also elbows and other places sometimes, I started using Alphosyl a number of years ago to good effect.
It doesn't smell as strongly as many of the others either; I do however finish off with a light revitalising shampoo type which smells sweeter!
