Posted Thu 9 Feb 2012 00.02 by thisaintnoparty I currently suffer with psoriasis on my scalp, ears, chest, face, elbows, arms and legs.
Hi all, new to the forum, but just have a question which I would love answered if anyone has the answer.
I am using T/Gel on my scalp (prescribed by the doctor), can I use normal shampoo as well? T/Gel absolutely stinks, so I usually give my hair a normal shampoo just after?...
Also, I have been given Diprobase - the doc said I should wash with it? I have been just rubbing it into the effected areas and leaving it. The bottle says to do so, but 'can' be applied before bathing.
But in the shower, I still use my normal shower gel, as Diprobase also stinks like TCP.
Anybody know if this may be a problem for my condition?
Thanks in advance!

Hi, I've used TGel for years and often swap it for normal shampoos. It does smell but it can't be that bad because my 10 y.o. son borrows it because he likes it! Basically if you use less TGel you will find your scalp gets worse. When I use other shampoos I tend to use very gentle stuff e.g. Method or kids shampoos.

Hi,
T/Gel stinks because of the tar it contains...but it is a real help! Now they made a new one for dry hair and it smells nice, so maybe you can try that one and when it is too itchy get back to the classic one?
If you use a normal shampoo after T/Gel you are basically cancelling its effect. But it says on the notice not to use continually so if you do so I would recommend something very gentle as per Matt's comment - I found that anything for normal hair is the best because they add less things in there, and the best for me is Dove for normal hair.

Hello there!
My psoriasis on my scalp has never actually agreed with Tgel whatsoever! I use Cocois on my scalp which my doctor prescribed, which I think works really well, then I use a mild normal shampoo to wash it out. I have used Capasal in the past too, which you can also get from your doctor.
Another tip for your scalp is using just normal oil, like almond oil. Rub a little on the affected areas, and I tend to go to sleep with this on, and in the morning the areas are soft and non scaly. I think you should just leave it on for as long as you can, this could be just an hour!
For the shower, I have just recently started using Doublebase, and its the best thing I have used so far. It is really just a moisturiser, which again you can get from your doctor. I use it to wash with in the shower, instead of shower gel, and then apply it as a moisturiser when I get out and am dry! This really has helped keep my skin soft and less red! And the bonus of no stinky smell!

T-Gel does indeed stink and I used it for years, then my dermatologist prescribed Capasal and I find this is just as good with out the smell. It is available over the counter and is probably cheaper to buy this way rather than on script as the prescription charges have just gone up.
Give it a try

I used pure herb medicine,I suffered from psoriasis too, but I was cured now. It was bad, and makes me very unhappy. I live in China. Here we use Traditional Chinese Medicine to treat skin problems, I went to many hospitals like this and tried many different treatments, but the effect is not very good until I went to a hospital in the North of China. It works, and now I am a happy person again, I am glad to share this with you, you may not able to go there, but you can talk to their doctors for advice. you can find more information on the website of vitiligotcm.
