Treatment that works

I'm 30 something year old that has suffered from psoriasis since the age of 12 but recently found something that works!

Hi all You might of already heard this but here goes I started with psoriasis when I was around 12, think puberty brought it out. I was the only one in the family that had it so my parents didn't really know how to go about dealing with it. From the age of 12-29 I tried various different creams and soap, some prescribed and some not. Nothing helped, I even went a few years without using anything as I didn't see the point as nothing helped. When I was 21 I started using dovobet (a steroid based cream) and it worked wonders...until it didn't anymore. New patches formed every 6 months or so and the old patches were beginning to be stubborn. I decided that I had had enough and went to see my Dr about seeing a dermatologist. He agreed and I got an appointment. I quit smoking (years beofre) to make it better, I don't drink and my life was more or less stress free and I dropped 3 stone, nothing helped. He decided to sent me for UV treatment which I was excited about but the psoriasis started to come back before the treatment was finished. He wanted to try putting me on a foam cream called ENSTILAR and was told I may not get it as it's very expensive but I did get it and OMG it's like a miracle cream. Apply for 4 weeks daily and it's gone! I wish I could upload pics. I've had this treatment for over a year now and there are patches on my body that have been gone since I first started using it, big patches! I went on holiday to Florida in 2016 and I was the only one in the poold and water park that wore leggings, went back again in 2018 after using the creams and managed to weather a swimsuit, something I haven't done in 8 years! I know some ppl have already tried this and it hasn't helped but I didn't think that anything else would help so I urge people to try it Hope this helps Natalie

Did it flare back up about a week later all? I used enstilar for my guttate psoriasis all over body (so tedious) and put it on every day for a week, as it cleared pretty fast, but then it came back with a vengeance a week later! should I of tapered off of it or should I of kept putting it on for 4 weeks even though it was clear!?? I'm going on 3 months of my first bout after my first time with strep throat, and it's a continuous flare...so miserable.

Hey I keep putting the foam on the patches even though it has gone and granted yes, when stopping use, some places do come back faster than they went away but I wouldn't say it a big flakey flare up but as I say, almost 2 years use and some of it still gone from the first time I used it Natalie

Sugardez: My doctor warned me that my guttate might take around 6 month to begin receding . . and he was correct. Enstilar, Dovobet etc are usally prescribed with instructions to use for 4 weeks - so why stop use early? Steroid rebound is a well documented potential symptom and many people have found success in avoiding or reducing it by tapering off the use of the topical treatment.

As long as it recedes. I am in so much depression thinking I will have it like this forever. I have it all over from scalp to toes, when the spots were clear on areas of my body after a week of use I didn't know where to put the foam anymore, other than to keep rubbing it ALL over my body. I may try it again for relief and be smart about tapering off. I Would love to go a more natural route. Did you have guttate OhNo_NotAgain?

Sugardez: as per the first line of my comment. I have also had plaque psoriasis since my 22nd Birthday in 198o. Initially I had it all over my body including my face (I was at University). It daded ove rhte next few years, strting with the end of my final exams , 1 month in the south of france in the sun, and then living and working in Indonesia. From about 1983 my main issue was occasional dandruff in scalp, and plaques on elbows and knees and in groin.

OhNo not again and sugardez, I have similar issues. I first had very mild psoriasis mainly scalp and arms at 15 which went away from 10 years, after a nice summer sunbathing and swimming in the sea in the Mediterranean, I moved to the UK 6 years ago and now I’ve got full blown guttaye psoriasis literally everywhere... it’s never flaky just tiny red spots everywhere and it makes me want to cry, like my body hates me! I tried phototherapy it worked for couple months now I’m back to topicals and it’s taking so much longer to clear, it’s depressing me and making me lose hope... how do you taper them off? I’ve got it all over my body so it’s not really applying on affected spots. I’m worried my skin might thin or that I’ll need be put on biologicals or systemics which I’ve heard only last a year max and I’m only 30 years old so if they don’t work what then? How to have any self confidence when I can’t wear my favourite clothes? Anyway suggestions on how to deal with it? Thank you all.

Hi Natalie Maria, Your story reminds a lot of mine, I’m currently 30 and it’s the first time that dovobet took so long to make a difference (2 months almost) and still now I’ve seen small patches trying to re emerge. My doctor had suggested instillalar two years ago but I thought it wouldn’t be diff than dovobet. Also did you still use it daily even though it went on remission?? How do you maintain it ?? All best, Christina
