Hi everyone
Just looking for a little help from the forum.
I’ve recently been diagnosed wit Psa by a private rheumatologist. I think I’ve had it for a few years and been a psoriasis sufferer for many years.
The consultant said that she will have to pass me back to the NHS as it is a chronic condition and has put me on 2mg Sulphasalazine a day which I’m building up to!
Just wondered if anyone can recommend who I get a referral to NHS from- consultant or GP (who kept telling me it was my hormones!) and also a good hospital to go to. I live in East London but am willing to travel?
Thanks very much

Frankilu: in my experiences, the way the NHS is structured, to see a specialist/comsultant you need a referral from a GP. So you probably need to go back to the GP or the GP Practice with whom you are registered. Give them a copy of results and recomendations from the Private Rheumatologist that you have seen.
A few years ago I was able to go directly to a Consultant, but that was only because he had treated me before and agreed to see me without a new GP referral.
Where I live, I cannot even see a private specialist without referral from a GP (usually from the NHS GP) . A couple of years ago I had to go to a private GP service and request referral to their Consultant, as my NHS GP refused to refer me). I paid GBP 100 for a 60 second consultation with the private GP solely to get a referral to the private Consultant. This was not for psoriasis I must add, but for a worn-out hip.
Even though I had health insurance, my NHS GP at the time refused to refer me. She is no longer my GP (or the GP that I make appointments with) , and I was lucky to find a very good doctor in the same practice.
(in my local practice of about 15 GPs, you are not restricted to which GP you consult. I try to see the same person generally for continuity, but I do not even know who is actually my registered GP. I registered with the practice 21 years ago).
good luck.

You may be sorted out by now...but have you got specific PSA symptoms ?
It can mimic so many other conditions.
