Hi all,
i have recently been diagnosed with psoriasis after 5 months of back and forth with doctors and finally seeing a specialist.
It has been a real struggle to say the least as my psoriasis is quite bad and all over my head and body now, not part due to the fact it took my GP surgery so long to try to diagnose my condition and finally referring me to a specialist who has now started me on an aggressive regime as well as referral to the hospital for possible photo therapy tablets or biological (I dont know what that is).
I would be lying if i said it hasn't been a struggle as a 32yo who has a customer facing job as well having recently started looking for a spouse it has knocked me back to say the least, especially with the reactions and looks you get from people.
I hope that the treatment works as its quite severe and all over my body, not sure what to expect in the coming months, just wanted to share my thoughts with people who might understand because as much as i wanted to believe it isn't, it is now taking a toll on me mentally explaining to people what it is i have and that it's not a risk to them or that it is not as bad as it looks.
Thanks for reading and I wish everyone the best.
Hi 🙋♀️
I completely understand how you are feeling. I also work in a public facing role. I have pustules psoriasis on my hands and some days have had to bandage my hands to go to work ( if I stay at home just spend all day looking at my hands which really gets me down) and people constantly ask what’s the problem I just say it’s a skin problem.
It’s also had an effect on my mental health and to be honest I haven’t told anyone the truth about my diagnosis and most people think it the sanitiser that I am reacting to.
I have been lucky and seen a dermatologist privately and have an appt next week to see about starting photography treatment.
Keep positive and good luck

Thank you for the kind words Moggy1, I really wish you the best with your treatment. I think that it's quite a dilemma with these kinds of conditions both a physical and mental battle.
There are (typically) four medical steps for treating psoriasis.
1. Mild = creams
2. Medium = phototherapy (UVB)
3. Bad = pills
4. Severe = injections (biologics)
Sounds like you might be at stage 2, 3 or 4.
Phototherapy zaps the skin with light.
Pills (tablets) slow the production of skin.
Biologics suppress the immune system (by injection).
Good luck.

Thank you Yacht, he didn't say what the 3 treatments were exactly so it's good to have Someone from this community explain it to me.
I think I am probably that far gone at this point and hopefully the interim treatment will help.
I got my medication today and it's alot so fingers crossed it works in the mean time

Hi,
Wishing you every success with your treatment and do please keep us posted. I’m 60 years old and never had any issues with my skin until a full body break out in February of this year. Bizarrely, my husband has a severe case that he’s been battling for 12 months.
I saw a private dermatologist and have been using creams and UVB lamp. It’s definitely a challenge but stay positive and I really hope you find relief for this frustrating skin condition.

Sorry to hear your current situation. Firstly you have passed the first hurdle in getting a referral to a dermatologist, that is pretty good going in five months.
Is the aggressive regime a number of creams and ointments? As noted earlier in the thread that is the first thing they will try you on and that may do the trick.
If when you see a dermatologist your P is no better they may give you stronger topicals before suggesting light therapy or tablets. Once you have tried and failed these then biologics is usually the last treament.
Hope you get some relief soon.

Thank you for all the kind words.
I have received the medication he's basically given me everything he can from tar bath solution to a tar cream for my body and my head as well as a foam spray and recommended t-gel and another shampoo to wash out the tar for my head as well as p45 creams
Hes still referred me to the hospital directly for I believe photo therapy or tablets and if need biologicals he said.

I’m so pleased to read you are getting somewhere and so hoping you progress positively. It’s very difficult but try to stay positive and I’m sending healing thoughts.
