I previously posted this in July but the post disappeared.
Last November I opted for the Flu vaccine which was painless but almost immediately, days after I developed Guttate Psoriasis due to the live virus in the vaccine.
My immune system went haywire causing all sorts of symptoms, some of which I am still suffering after almost a year.
My hair went whiter and started to fall out, I lost most of my body hair, thrombosis in my legs, fingernails warped and turned paperish, sensitivity and muscle in my fingers disappeared but the pain didn't, lost all muscle mass and two stone in weight, any skin which was not affected turned greyish.. I wound up needing the aid of a walking stick for around seven months and still am too weak to handle many stairs.
I have luckily, since had 35 treatments of UV Phototherapy (The maximum aparrently) which has almost totally cleared any Psoriasis but I know it is coming back.
I have steered clear of the Covid vaccines mainly out of fear of an unlikely retriggering and due to being seriously underweight and fatigued. Some consultants say take the vaccine and deal with any side effects, while others have said don't touch it as it is untested on immune deficient people.
My query is has the Flu vaccine done this to anyone else?
Thank you
Don’t know about the flu vaccine but I know 100% the Covid vaccine caused my psoriasis! It’s nearly gone after 6 months! Only had this once! Won’t be having the booster!
Sad to read this, it makes total sense.
Psoriasis is an immunity condition (Don't know the words) and our bodies are trying to protect us.
To my knowledge there still have been no trials with people suffering immuno compromised
conditions.

Hi all,
Malcolm, I'm really sorry to hear about your health issues and I hope you improve soon.
The flu vacinne in the UK for adults has no live vaccine, only the children's nose vaccine has live vaccine and if immunosuppressed, you should not have live vaccines at all.
I'm I biologics and have been for 7 years and never had any flares due to flu jab (I have it every year). I did, however, have a slight flare after the AZ vaccines, although very mild. I've just had a 3rd primary covid vaccine, this time Pfizer, with no further flare.
Psoriasis is an over zealous immune response to what it sees as damage to the skin (environment, food, skin damage, rubbing, overheating, cold etc). The over reaction can be ridiculous!
Psoprotect me have been studying covid in psoriasis patients World wide and are gathering more information as it continues to become apparent how we are affected. Obviously studies take year of data compiling so its ongoing.
Whilst everyone reacts differently to different meds, what they do know is flu and covid vaccines are generally very well tolerated and offer some extra protection. Certain other conditions or medications actually offer additional protection.
I'm on biologics and personally am advised to have the flu vaccine (not live) every year and will be offered a 4th 'booster' vaccine in 5 months, which I will take.
I hope you have reported your adverse reactions to your health team as this may implicate other conditions or causes.
I wish you well and hope your recovery goes well.
Thanks for your reply, It is very interesting.
I trawled the internet at the time and found conflicting information on the Flu jab, some of which stated there was a miniscule amount of live virus. I accept your explanation though.
All of the medical specialists initially suggested I had a throat virus which triggered the Guttate attack, which I did not have. Then some accepted that it could have been the Jab.
There is also the matter of the jab being incubated in Egg protein and I am Vegan, so I accept there could be a reaction there also.
Thank you for your well wishes, I am on the mend but it has taken a huge toll over this year.
Cheers

Malcolm, there is a strong link seen between throat infections (eg strep throat) and guttate psoriasis.
There is NO live virus in the flu vaccine.

Hi Sizzy,
Firstly, Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin DISEASE,
The conditions (triggers?) you named in your above quote are among many, many, MANY more
things.
Several MEDICATIONS are also known to cause or triigger a flare up of Psoriasis such as:
Beta-Blockers, ACE inhibitors, antimalarial drugs, interferons, Terbinafine, TNF inhibitors, Benzodiazepines, NSAIDS and also BIOLOGICS among many others.
It is very well known that no one knows the exact chain of events that cause the development or flare ups regarding Psoriatic diseases.

Calm down lol. See below for what psoriasis is:
'At a basic level, psoriasis is a disorder of the immune system. White blood cells called T-helper lymphocytes become overactive, producing excess amounts of cytokines, such as tumor necrosis factor, interleukin-2, and interferon-gamma. In turn, these chemicals trigger inflammation in the skin and other organs.'
I know there are many triggers and I never said there wasn't. My triggers tend to be skin damage where my immune system causes chronic inflammation of my skin. It is a disease caused by your immune system.
There are many different immune system conditions that are diseases but they all stem from an immune system that just doesn't work in the correct way.
US psoriasis association says....
Psoriatic Disease and the Immune System
Psoriasis is a chronic, immune-mediated disease impacting more than 8 million people in the United States and 125 million people worldwide.*
*According to the World Psoriasis Day Consortium.
WHAT IS PSORIASIS?
How Does Psoriatic Disease Affect the Immune System?
Psoriatic disease is an immune-mediated disease that includes psoriasis, along with other comorbidities such as psoriatic arthritis (PsA) and related systemic inflammation. In people living with psoriasis and/or PsA, the immune system is triggered and activated, acting as though there are harmful pathogens attacking the body.
This inflammation can present with noticeable signs such as discoloration of the skin or swelling around joints. However, the overactive immune system may also lead to inflammation a person cannot see. It can affect in the body, organs and systems and lead to other health conditions (also called comorbidities) associated with psoriatic disease. Comorbidities of psoriatic disease include cardiovascular disease, metabolic syndrome, obesity, hypertension (high blood pressure), type 2 diabetes, anxiety and depression, and more.
Researchers who study psoriatic disease are still working to identify the substances inside the body that trigger this immune response. One possibility could be certain kinds of bacteria acting as antigens (foreign substance that triggers an immune response). For example, sometimes streptococcal infection (known as strep throat) can trigger a case of guttate psoriasis. Another possible antigen could be antimicrobial peptides, molecules made by the body that are a part of the immune system and that work as antibiotics. *

Just to address something in the very first post in this thread once again.
The post says " I developed Guttate Psoriasis due to the live virus in the vaccine. "
There is NO live virus in the flu vaccines.
I have had two different flu vaccines this year (and 2 astra-zenica and one Pfizer covid vaccine) and in my case neither has triggered anything - but as most psoriasis sufferers know, that does not mean that others will not experience an apparent reaction.
I have had plaque psoriasis since 1980 and since then I have had tattoos, severe tonsilitis several times, periods of very heavy binge drinking of alcohol, and extended periods of abstinence. During those times my psoriasis never changed.
However about 4 years ago I have a hip-replacement and 6 weeks after I suddenly developed guttate psoriasis which went from a two or 3 itchy spots in my chest to covering my entire trunk in about 2 weeks. My GP suggested that the physical trauma of the hip operation might be the trigger, and suggested that it would subside after about 6 months. we treated the itching, I did not begin slathering steroids all over. 6 months later it began to fade and by 8 months it was gone.
I still have patches of plaque psoriasis.
I have no personal or family history of psoriasis until now. I am in my mid 80's. I caught Covid in mid-December 2020 and had my Covid vaccinations in January and March 2021 (Astra Zeneca) and on 25 September had my booster (Pfizer) at the same time as my flu vaccination. About 3 November I had a massive flare-up diagnosed in late November as Sebopsoriasis. I have had to resort to self-pay private consultations as 'urgent' face-to-face with NHS specialists is not available until 28 January 2022! Struggling to deal with it (medication has helped slightly) as it is all so new to me. Cannot help but believe there might be some connection between the Covid and/or flu vaccinations and this flare-up.
I appreciate all of the responses on here. Thank you.
My plaque psoriasis has returned with vengeance but thankfully nowhere near where I was.
Definitely, the vaccine affected my immune system severely and I am now registered with illness /disability due to the after effects.
Outwith the phototherapy, the only thing left to do is apply the flammable creams and potions. This helps with the discomfort but is in no way a remedy.
Posted Wed 29 Dec 2021 19.33 by andrea have had p for too many years
I have had psoriasis for 50 years and have finally got it under control with methotrexate. At 17mg. After a year I tried to reduce it and got down to 5 mg and was still almost clear when it flared terribly after having my booster and flu jab together. Now I’m having to increase my methotrexate gradually and start Uvb. I’m not sure if it’s the vaccine or reducing the meds that have caused this. I was fine after having the first two jabs.

Andrea, you have my sympathies. Since my UVB ended, my Plaque Psoriasis has returned vengefully. I am still unvaxed as I am still not entirely repaired from my illness. I am really reluctant to try medications other than my lotions etc but will have another medical review early in the year.
Whatever we do to our immune systems I believe will cause a Psioratic reacion if we are already vulnerable.
