Is this normal

I was diagnosed with psoriasis by my GP in November - she is also a skin specialist. Vitamin D and steroids applied topically did little and in fact my P has got much worse. Over the last few days the skin on my arms - especially inner arms - seems to be raw. I'm not really experiencing itching anymore just soreness and burning - so much so that it is difficult to sleep. I am just doing the emollient routine with Epaderm 3 times daily. Am waiting for Dermatologist but it will be mid-March before the referral is even reviewed. Anyway - so painful now I'm reverting to Paracetemol. The psoriasis is everywhere and getting quite difficult to live with

Oh poor you 😢 Personally I would just use moisturiser - anything that soaks in - preferably un-perfumed. I have used an aloe Vera gel before now to cool it down - or try coconut oil - anything natural - I have even put an ice pack on my feet when they were red and inflamed but wrap in a tea towel first - I feel that everything is trial and error - sadly - having a flare up doesn’t seem to have any pattern to it - it happens - I deal with it best I can - I have tried to leave off steroid ointment etc for as long as I can they/it doesn’t seem to help me. These forums are very helpful people are really kind and will help where they can. I always end up using good old Vaseline just to soothe. Hope you feel better soon.

Personally I would avoid petroleum based products like Vaseline. It tends to block pores and makes the itch worse over time. Food grade cold pressed coconut oil, was much better in my experience. I have not heard of Vitamin D being applied topically before. I did however start to see good improvements once I started supplementing with Vitamin D3. Daily I was taking about 5000IU, along with fish oil (EPA) (DHA) 1000mg. Took about 3 or 4 months I think, and my plaques started to shrink and clear up.

Thanks Mary1968 I will stick with the coconut oil and leave the Vaseline off - I do tend to alternate them anyway.

@MAry1968 : Calcipotriol is a vitamin D derivative used to treat psoriasis under the name Dovonex. It is also one of the constituents of Dovobet (together with a steroid). I have used both and also applie Vitamin D night-cream to psoriasis plaques instead of Dovobet, and had very good results.

@SharonG : I have used a variety of moisturiser/emollients, pretty well all that I could find on the market or from the GP, and the most effective I found were: DoubleBase Dayleve Gel; and DoubleBase Gel. They are excellent, and used widely in medicals/hospital settings and care-homes as part of skin-care regimes. I found the "Dayleve" gel version particulartly effective, it leaves a thin barrier-layer on the skin. They are both available in 500g pump dispensers.

Hi I have e45 bath oil on prescription and that soaks into the skin and is refreshing and smooth. Don't slip getting out and if you use to much may come out like an eel.
