LED treatment?

I have had Psoriasis for 42 years sometimes it clear other times not - its hard to live with and i have used all topical medication

I was just looking at the Dermalux flex MD LED Device and wondering whether anyone has any experience of it for curing P? I use Soratinex which is really effective as it has cleared my psoriasis a lot to the extent that I don’t use any other medication or visit the doctors about my P. However, occasionally it does come back and I think I have to rest the Soratinex but that makes the P worse. I have thought about this LED which says it’s has good results but as it’s expensive, I wondered whether anyone has any experience of it?

A P sufferer for over 30 years, through good and bad times.

Hi, unfortunately there is no cure for P yet. Yes light treatment can help. With this type and similar equipment it is worth considering the extent of your P and how long you will use the equipment, especially if it is expensive as you mention. The next note would be who will monitor your exposure, especially if you accidentally burn. Good luck.

Thanks Steview The LED light therapy is not the same as the UVB treatments which I have stayed away from as I am concerned about the exposure or not being able to regulate this myself. As this is fairly new I just wondered if anyone had experience of using it to clear P in the usual way (relief and then returns)! As you know it’s just so unpredictable it would be good to have a few suitable alternatives to provide the change up it needs from time to time! Would be interested to find out more. Many thanks.

A young adult P sufferer, who’s tried all topical steroids, been on methotrexate and recently started Dermalux treatments

Hi Lizzie, As a fellow P sufferer, I was fed up of being on methotrexate now for 4 years . This doesn’t seem like long but I’m only just 21 and i personally find it’s a horrible drug. Don’t get me wrong it’s helped reduce my P a significant amount. I decided about 12 weeks ago to go cold turkey, stopped all steroid creams and meds. This was a big step however in replace I was going to start using treatments from the dermalux machines . So far I have nothing but praise. I also decided to invest in skincare specialised for psoriasis . I recommend looking into dermaviduals . They provide skincare with DMS in . Whatever this is -it’s worked wonders . For the first time in my life psoriasis plaques aren’t forming on my face nor in my scalp after using their shampoo . If I wake up feeling like a flare up could happen . Simply washing my face with the cleanser saves it. Flare ups aren’t really the word to use anymore since it’s so manageable

Dear niamhstrett, I am glad to hear that you have had success with Red Light Therapy and Dermviduals - I tested some of the latter and it was okay but I didn’t test enough to really know so your feedback is great. Thank you. It’s great news for you that other things work for you. I now have a Dermalux Flex MD which I use at home. I think it really works well but for me it’s a bit small so spend a long time moving it around! That said my P isn’t that bad at the moment. I have also used Soratinex which has been my main topical application. However I am taking a break from it and using red light therapy, salt baths and Sorian cream for the stubborn small patches. I have never used any of the medications you used to use so can’t comment on those but you must be relieved. I have had P since a young age so for a long time - if you can get the right treatment for you now that’s great. I wish you all the best but do keep posting your feedback as it’s really good to hear how all the other treatments may help. Best of luck niamhstrett. Lizzie

Doesn't seem at the moment to be a lot of medical studies out there on LED phototherapy for psoriasis. LED seems to work okay for acne and rosacea on the face, but the psoriasis studies are rare. Can find one vague study from 2018. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5756569/

Thanks Yacht, I did read many positive reviews on Red Light Therapy before purchasing my unit. I am really happy that I am using it and it’s worth a go and if it works then great - which frankly is true with all P treatments and this has no side effects that have been identified. You are right, it’s early days and would like to see more evidence of RLT for psoriasis. For me, it is really helping - I only have a few very small patches at the moment. But as we know P comes and goes! There is a new confidence for me not having P so that’s got to be worth it! With P of it works for you great! If not we will get very distressed and look for something else!! Here’s hoping that RLT proves helpful for many.

Hi Lizzie - many thanks for raising this. I’d never heard of the Red Light option. Where did you end up buying yours? I saw there’s an official site but often those sites are more expensive..? Do keep us posted how you get on - it’s always interesting to hear. Really hope it works great for you. Have you tried it on your legs, as well as face? Thanks :)

Dear bargainlovingmum I saved up for the Dermalux Flex which is expensive. To be honest I had been thinking about it for many years following salon trial, and eventually took the plunge. I have only had it since May and my psoriasis has been mainly on my legs which I feel I have treated successfully. There are now more red light therapy studios and many salons have the Dermalux or similar. The website may have more information about this. If you end up trying it, please do post any feedback. I only use it on legs so far as I don’t have psoriasis on my face. I do sometimes suffer from scalp psoriasis so will try the RLT next time. Good luck with your trial. Lizzie
