Hi,
My 14 yr old son has been struggling with psoriasis for around 3 years. He’s on cyclosporine & crossing over to methrotrexate at the moment. Im not keen on either iof them They worry the hell out of me but I had to do something he’s missed out on so much school when he gets it on his face.he’s got zero confidence & no social life He had a hospital admission last month from strep due to his low immune system. I’m wondering if anyone has any stories about being on biologics & how they’re doing as this could be the next step.
Thanks Tracy

Hi I’ve been on methotrexate for a few years and have been almost clear. I’ve had no side effect except tiredness but since taking Vitamin D and omega 3 for past 6 weeks I’ve not felt nearly as tired. I do occasionally take iron supplements but not for a few weeks as these help with my tiredness. My son was badly affected by psoriasis all over and had biologics which were amazing. As nothing else worked. He has stopped them for the past 6 months due to wanting to try another approach and is trying Hanna Silitoes psoriasis diet from her book Radiant. Many have benefited from this & her multi strain drinks and creams. May be worth a try. I wish your son all the best and hope there is something that will work for him.

You can follow her stories on Instagram under Mygoodness recipes. She has an online store. I’ve not used her products as im on meds which are working. Many seem to have had good results but we are all different so it’s finding out what works best for your son. I bought a UVB phototherapy light unit 4 years ago from MBS which was expensive but I only use it during winter when I find a few patches on my legs come back . I’m usually clear in about 3-4 months. I’ve had Uvb at the hospital but it was difficult due keep appointments due to work and I can use this when I need to. But I have to take care with the time and build up slowly.

Hi, we hired out a body light for a month it cleared my son up bug if came back very quickly. Is it ok to use uvb light when you’re on methrotrexate I thought I read that it increases the risk of skin cancer x

Hi I’ve told my dermatologist I use the light but they haven’t said anything about not using it. I have regular blood tests and I’m told to drink plenty of water. I find that once my skin is clear on my legs I don’t need to sun bathe but I do wear shorts and skirts with factor 30 on my legs and just catch the sun as a I go about on daily walks. I start treatment at 10 seconds front then back and increase by 10 seconds each time up to 3 minutes by about 4 months or sometimes less. Then I don’t use it again until perhaps occasionally later in the summer if it comes back on my legs. The rest of me is clear. I do check my moles.

Hi Andrea, you sound very grounded which is a good thing. I worry about my son so much & most probably spend too much time worrying and reading about things. It’s the fear of the unknown. I think if it was me I wouldn’t worry so much, I just feel for my son & want to help him with what he’s going through & keep him safe. Thanks for the info Thanks take care x
