VItamin D capsules for topical application?

I can't find any mention of this, probably because its a stupid question, but I'm going to ask anyway: Will applying the oil from a vitamin D capsule work in a similar way to the various topical vitamin D treatments or will I be wasting money?

I have used Body Shop Intense night cream with VIT-D on my elbows where I have dry-scaly psoriasis and it definitely helps and can keep it away, better than just a moisturiser, and no steroids.
