Amgevita Experiences

Posted Wed 6 Mar 2024 18.29 by Dencho1

Hello community. I have suffered severe plaque psoriasis for around 14 years everywhere bar my face and feet. Over the years I went through the usual lotions, potions, and pills including Dovobet, Diprosalic, Enstillar, Ciclosporin, and phototherapy. The specialist has now moved me to self-treat with Amgevita starting next week. I wanted to find out more about experiences with this treatment, including any initial or longer-term side effects, anything to avoid while using, and the effectiveness of the treatment. Grateful for any experiences. Regards. M

Hi, I’ve been on Amgevita since last June (2023). Initially, the main side effect for me was tiredness but this gradually faded after a few doses. Main side effect for me since then has been more frequent headaches (I never really had many headaches before taking it), but these have also waned slightly now. Clearance wise, I was probably about 90-95% clear after about 3 weeks, had the very odd few breakthrough patches (armpits) which I managed with enstillar. I also went through a brief period where my scalp was very dry and some plaques came back, but that has gone now. As I write now, I’m probably as close to 100% clear as you can get and forget I even have psoriasis most of the time! Food and drink-wise, I’m not avoiding anything personally, and drink alcohol in moderation (unlike when I took methotrexate, I avoided alcohol more or less completely). Despite the side effects mentioned, it’s been great for me, easy to administer, too. I hope you have a good experience too, and it works well for you. All the best, Paul.

I wanted to provide an update on my Amgevita treatment in case anyone has trepidation about starting this treatment. I was quite anxious about starting the self injections 8 weeks ago but it is really easy, painless, and thankfully I've had no side effects. I realise I am still fairy early in the treatment and there is scope for the effectiveness to wain, but for me the results so far have been simply amazing. Within 3 to 4 weeks the psoriasis covering the entirety of my legs, arms, and torso was down to a few patches and 4 weeks later it has completely gone. I'm wearing shorts and t-shirts out for the 1st time in nearly 15 years which was unthinkable just a few weeks ago. Furthermore it seems to have removed all the joint inflamation I was encountering. It has given me a new lease of life and I wish I had jumped through all the hoops and pushed for this treatment sooner. Wishing anyone else on the cusp of this treatment a similar positive experience. Regards M

It looks like my doctor who treats me for ulcerative colitis and psoriasis on my hands and feet is going to try Amgevita to help both conditions. I have been on methotrexate 20 mg until a few months ago when I went down to 15mg. It has kept my feet and hands nearly clear and UC a bit more stable. . However, I am unwell for three days after self injecting, the tiredness is dreadful and UC not very good either. I am hoping amgevita will help greatly. I would appreciate to hear from anyone else for advice.

Good luck with the Amgevita Mrs T. It has been so effective for me that if it wasn't for the process of self injecting every fortnight I would have forgotten that I had the condition. Thankfully I've experienced no side effects to date either. One thing I should add is to make sure your blood tests are up to date and to pester for presciption renewal weeks in advance so you don't run out. It took the hospital 4 weeks to renew my prescription as the only person authorised to do this was on extended leave. All the best.
