Bruising

Hi. I’ve had moderate to severe Psoriasis for over 50 years. I take Otezla medication and use steroid creams to keep it manageable, which works fine for me. I’m now 64 years old and over the past 6 months I’ve started to get large, dark red bruises on my forearms, seemingly from the slightest of knocks. These bruises take about 3 weeks to disappear (by which time they have usually been replaced by others). My skin also seems to cut very easily and takes ages to heal. Is this likely to be due to my Psoriasis or my treatment? I live in France and it is two months before I can get a GP appointment and 4 months to get an appointment with my dermatologist. I was just wondering whether this bruising is common to this condition. Many thanks

Hi. Skin thinning can be related to psoriasis, steroid creams, or Otezla. Get a doc's opinion to rule out underlying conditions. Take care of your skin in the meantime!

Snap! I'm 60 and this is starting to happen with alarming regularity. I had assumed at first that it was just rough and tumble of the odd bit of manual work. With greater awareness of it I am now convinced that it is not. I am not aware of a direct link with Psoriasis (mainly scalp but with sufficient bits and pieces elsewhere to keep my level of concern high). The blood bruises are exclusively on the forearms.

I too had these on my forearms. They are like big blood blisters and if knocked, they bleed and then I have horrible scars. Since I have been taking black seed oil, (see Deacon Blues' thread under treatments) they have nearly disappeared. Yes, I know, I was sceptical about an 'alternative' treatment but I am so much better.

In a strange way I’m glad that it is probably related to my psoriasis. Thanks for your replies. I’ll take it up with my dermatologist next month and in the meantime I’ll start hunting for black seed oil.
