Ustekinamab biosimilar

Hi all. I’ve have tried every treatment possible going and the only one that worked for me was the 45mg ustekinamab injections. For 9 years I didn’t have 1 dot of psoriasis on my body. Last month I received a letter telling me that I will be moved to a biosimilar product. 4 days passed since I had that injection and my psoriasis has flared back up to what it used to be. I am so angry at this change as it has taken me back to where I started. Has anyone else experienced anything similar?

I have had the same experience and will be speaking to the hospital on Monday. The biosimilar drug doesn't work as well at all and there was no choice given. Whatever isn't similar is the bit I need to have a reasonably clear skin.

What, exactly, is that "biosimilar product"?

Suffered for the last 32 years.

I was on Stelera for years and my skin was under the best control it had ever been since I was a teenager. (I'm 46) I was informed around September last year that I was switching to a biosimilar and since then my skin has worsened and I've had to go back to using topical treatments in addition and it's still not under control. I have an appointment with dermatology nurse next week and am going to ask about possibility of moving back to stelera. I also take methotrexate.

I got an appointment with the top dermatologist at my local hospital and he was very understanding. He apologises and admitted it was a cost cutting exercise. I am now on the sister drug to ustekinamab which is called guselkumab. I take it every 8 weeks instead of 12. It has brought my psoriasis back to normal. Not a dot with less side affects. I had to have chest X-ray and blood tests before I can go back on it but at least it’s back under control. I could feel my blood bubbling plunder the surface with the bio similar. I hope you all get sorted with your treatments and get your psoriasis back under control. Don’t take no for an answer. Keep pestering your dermatologist.

Thanks for your response Phil. I feel positive now that you were listened to and put on the right path to recovery again. Hopefully I get the same response next week. Will keep you posted!

My dermatologist couldn’t understand why it happened as the testing showed they were identical but obviously my body disagreed. I couldn’t believe it flared up after only 7 days. When the nurse rang me and said she would prescribe me dovenex cream I could have cried. It took me back 30 years to being a teenager. Methotrexate gave me really bad headaches. I persisted and eventually got answers. Keep me posted with your results 👍🏼.

So, drum roll...... I got the approval to switch back to Stelera 😜 i could have kissed the nurse. Good timing as I was due a delivery of pyzchiva on Monday next week, so have been told to reject the delivery and wait for new prescription to be sorted. Means waiting, but I'd rather that, than take that one and have to wait 12 weeks until next dose due! Will persist with topical treatments and the methotrexate in the meantime and hopefully get it under control soon.

🤩. Fantastic news. So pleased for you. I think they feel guilty switching patients. So glad you got the result you wanted. You’ll soon see it clear up. Well done 👏🏼👏🏼

Thanks Phil, I am so pleased. The last six months I've been so fed up about going backwards again.
