Update on the Availability of Dovobet Ointment and Dovonex Ointment

We have received new information about the availability of these products in the UK and Ireland from the manufacturer, LEO Pharma. 

In February 2019, we contacted LEO Pharma for an update on the availability of Dovobet Ointment (calcipotriol/betamethasone dipropionate) and Dovonex Ointment (calcipotriol) in the UK. This is in addition to the update on the availability of Dovobet Ointment 30g in the Republic of Ireland received in December 2018 (see below).

UK

LEO Pharma has confirmed that supply of Dovobet Ointment 30g should be resumed by the end of the week commencing 4th February 2019. There is currently good stock of other pack sizes available

It was also confirmed that supply of Dovonex Ointment 30g should be resumed by the end of the week commencing 4th February 2019. There is currently good stock of other pack sizes available.

Republic of Ireland

LEO Pharma has confirmed that Dovobet Ointment 30g was discontinued in the Republic of Ireland on 31st October 2018. LEO took this decision for commercial reasons 'to allow us to focus our efforts on innovative solutions that will ultimately drive better patient outcomes.'

The product is expected to remain available for a short period of time until existing stocks have been exhausted. After this time, Dovobet Ointment will no longer be available in the Republic of Ireland in any of the different pack sizes.

LEO Pharma recommends that anybody affected by this change should 'consult their healthcare professional to discuss the best alternative option based on the clinical judgement of the prescriber in partnership with you after discussing your individual needs.' There are alternative products with the same active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) available.

LEO Pharma also wishes to emphasise that this discontinuation is not due to any safety or quality issues with Dovobet Ointment. Existing stock may still be dispensed by Pharmacists and used by patients.
