The Psoriasis Association is proud to announce the appointment of Professor Jonathan Barker as an Honorary Life Vice President. This award recognises Professor Barker's invaluable support and contributions to the charity over the past two decades.

Professor Barker was appointed to the position as he steps down from his long-standing role on the Medical and Research Committee.

His dedication and service to the Psoriasis Association and wider psoriasis community over many years have been invaluable.

Professor Barker's involvement with the Psoriasis Association began in 1988, when he received a grant to research the role of phospholipase C in the pathophysiology of psoriasis at the University of Michigan Medical School. Over the years, Professor Barker received several more grants from the Psoriasis Association, with his work improving the understanding of the genetic basis of psoriasis.

Throughout his career as a Consultant Dermatologist and researcher, Professor Barker has supported the Psoriasis Association in many ways. He served on the Medical and Research Committee for over 20 years, where he reviewed hundreds of grant applications.

He also played a key role in raising awareness about psoriasis and providing knowledge information to the community. Professor Barker also welcomes and educates new staff members to the world-leading severe psoriasis clinic at the St John’s Institute of Dermatology, London.

Throughout the years, Professor Barker has been heavily involved in public engagement. He regularly presented at Psoriasis Association conferences and online meetings, whilst giving the organisation a global presence. This has included presentations at the International Psoriasis Council and the Psoriasis from Gene to Clinic Conference.

Despite recently stepping down from the Medical and Research Committee, Professor Barker is keen to continue supporting the Psoriasis Association's work. His appointment as an Honorary Life Vice President is a testament to his commitment and exceptional service to the charity.

Psoriasis Association Former Chairman Nick Evans said “The Psoriasis Association is extremely grateful for the commitment and dedication Professor Baker has provided over the last twenty years. Since first being awarded a research grant from the Psoriasis Association in 1998, his work has contributed extensively to the overall aims of the charity. Not only, has he has been a supportive colleague to the charity for many years, but also a life-long friend.”

On receiving the award, Professor Baker said “I am extremely grateful to the Psoriasis Association. At St John’s Institute of Dermatology, we are very focussed on delivering excellence in clinical care and patient focussed research. Hopefully we have made a positive impact on psoriasis care. The Psoriasis Association for many years has been a partner in what we do in many ways; giving advice, partnering in patient and public information events, funding our research, helping government make crucial decisions about funding drugs. Thus, I feel very honoured to be appointed an Honorary Life Vice President.”

Professor Barker’s guidance on research best practices has been instrumental in shaping the direction of psoriasis research and treatment.

The Psoriasis Association would like to express its gratitude to Professor Jonathan Barker for his dedication and outstanding contributions. We are certain his work will inspire and guide future advancements in psoriasis research and patient care.
