I've had psoriasis on my legs for about a year (im 59) and my finger tips since October but were misdiagnosed as being contact dermatitis. I avoided all chemicals and wore gloves out doors, in bed and when cleaning and they were getting worse. Saw a different doctor Thursday who prescribed Diprobase and Dermovate. Today is Sunday and all splits have healed and pain is gone!

i was reading this discussion as I have had a little issue with the scalp for years, recently it began to affect one ankle and my hands. i thought it may be an allergy but it persisted, after much research and the help of this site, i confirmed it is more psoriasis.
In Canada I was prescribed diprosalic lotion for the scalp by an excellent dermatologist, pre-eminent in Canada. It worked fast and well. For many years I had no issue and now, living in the Caribbean it resurfaced in this new manner. It was making me crazy with itchiness and the obvious issue that it doesn't look good.
My research revealed that there are two types of Diprosalic, one a lotion and the other a cream or ointment. The lotion is to be used only on the scalp so i went and bought the cream, they had to order it, but after a couple of days use it cleared the issue almost completely. Now after a second tube it has cleared completely.
I tried every holistic, natural approach as I have fresh cococnut oil, aloe and all other types of plant remedies close at hand here, in the end, the diprosalic saved me again. I joined here just to post this and hope it can help others from continuing to suffer.

I had on my palms, finger tips and thumbs and had a huge, deep "gash" from wrist to middle finger. Exorex lotion (can be bought over-the-counter and stored in 'fridge) immediately stopped the itching (and reduces the scale). I invested in a foot file to thin the patches and initially found Vaseline to be the best moisturiser. I applied liberally to the gash and then covered either with cotton gloves (fingers cut off) when at home and/or in bed or a bandage when at work. Gash healed within a week. I now use Exorex after showering and then moisturise. My hands are now clear. Good luck with yours.

Hi Helen I have the same and worked out the problem why it happens and mine is due to when I use my cream/ointment on my hands which gets bad is a steroid based ointment/cream the tops of my fingers and down the inside is not affected so when I'm doing the creaming it's on my finger tips and sides so now I have a bowl of warm water and cotton wool and just wipe the tops and sides of my fingers, every time I do this and now it doesn't crack my skin. I've also bought a tube of Conotrane Cream from Chemist ask where you get you prescriptions from and it acts as a barrier and no nasty steroids in it it can be used for lists of things. Hope this helps Helen Ive had Psoriasis for 40yrs plus . Chrissie

I have psoriasis on my feet and hands. Dermalmd psoriasis serum is great and really soothes when applied. It hasn't gotten rid of it as my case is fairly advanced but it does soften the plaques

I developed the same cuts on 3 of fingers and was going crazy trying all kinds of creams without any luck. I saw a posting from someone that by covering your fingers overnight with finger gloves and applying moisturizer help him, well, i started doing this last Friday may 4 and and today may 8, my psoriasis is almost gone!!!!! no more cuts and my skin seems to be recuperating from all the lost skin. I wear the finger gloves when i am in my office most of the day and at night.... it seems that having constant moisture really helps... I tried about 50 types of creams to keep moist but nothing works like the gloves..... try and i hope it helps some of you....

So, where do i start, i have had this on my hands for about 2 years and have tried every cream, lotion and potion going and none of the ones my doctor or specialist has suggested or prescribed me have ever worked!
My advice to anyone who has this condition is to buy yourself some vitamin e oil, argan oil and vitamin a oil - combine the three and rub into the affected areas gently. Leave it for 5 minutes, wipe off any excess and then carry on. You need to keep your hands as clean as you possibly can - i have been known to wear cotton gloves so the combination of oils can work without it being rubbed off so soon. I also sometimes go to bead with cotton socks on with the oils on and cotton gloves on my hands.
If i stop using this for a day, my skin starts to rage with it. The oils not only soothe the condition but they take away the hard scratchy bits that are left when your hands dry out.
This is not a solution but it is the only thing that helps me! I am a typist so psoriasis of the hands is not the most ideal ailment to have but i alleviate the pain and inconvenience of it with these oils.
Hope this helps.

Can anyone help with sensitive area psoriasis and itching? I use a little eumovate when I am desperate and Aveeno in the shower and to soothe my elbows but due to the heat my sensitive genital psoriasis gets me down and I can't go around naked all the time!
When that area is hot, I scratch and it bleeds and skin comes off and then it crusts over and I am sure the nerve endings are affected as I get electric shocks in that area too :((((
*** Aveeno products are 1/3 off in Boots at the moment

Poor you. I can only suggest the oils I mentioned in my previous post. I too have had the problem down below but it seems to go when my hands flare up.
I visited a herbalist and she said that there is something triggering my psoriasis and to try going onto a dairy, wheat and sugar free diet. This did work for the psoriasis downstairs but who the hell can live their life without those things! Very hard.
Try the oils and keep the area well moisturised.
Good luck.

Hi I'm a P sufferer and for 50yrs I've had to put up with this horrible disease, my hands drive me mad with the unbearable itching I was given Dovobet by Doc, but didn't help so three days ago I was home itching so I went in the kitchen and i soaked my hands in 100% Organic Olive Oil and put cotton gloves on, repeated before bed and the difference was incredible I have now done this for three days and nights, they are still peeling but no itch, no cracks and redness fading, so I'm off to get a big bottle from Aldi at the beginning they were very swollen as i have Psoriatic Arthritis so it's got rid of the swelling, I'm really pleased and I've order Vinyl Gloves as someone on site recommended them as I do use rubber gloves and it may be them that caused this . Good Luck everybody. Chrissie

Be very cautious with Aveeno. Try on a small area first. I made the mistake of not doing a test and ended up with my psoriasis being 10 times as bad all over my body, and appearing in areas where before I had none. I wouldn't go near it ever again. I'm sure it is very good for 'normal' skin but definitely does not work on psoriasis coverage.
I've just tried another 'light treatment' session. My skin was badly burned, probably because I used 'Cetraben' cream. I decided not to continue because the result was so painful. (Nearly dialled 999). My skin seems very sensitive to any topical applications so finding a moisturiser is a nightmare. I'm currently using Johnson's baby lotion, which seems to be beneficial. I will persevere and see how it goes.
Do, everyone, continue to recommend PVC and vinyl gloves when washing up, especially when placing hands in water that has washing up liquid in, especially Fairy Liquid (which is probably ok for those who do not have psoriasis). I have found it to be lethal on my hands. Their 'recipe' changed around 1981 and from then on, until I discovered how it affected me, psoriasis developed on the back of my hands very badly. Now that I use gloves, my hands are clear.
I do suffer from arthritis in my right middle finger in particular, which is constantly being dislocated by bone growth. I've found that squeezing the sides of the knuckles helps to straighten them.
I have recently been reading about the other health hazards for psoriasis sufferers, like an increase in warts and wart-like growths, and the heightened risk of cardiovascular diseases. I also looked at some of the dietary advice. Very interesting.

Hi Chrissie NW - In response to your post. I bought the vitamin a oil from Amazon (Vitamin A - Retinyl Palmitate Cosmetic Ingredient - 100% Natural, Pure & Organic 10ml). The Amazon seller is La Esencia Ltd. I would also like to recommend DIONIS Goat Milk hand cream. I use the Verbeena & Cream but any of them work. I tend to alternate between the oils and this cream and it keeps the plaque/scaly skin at bay. Shame I cannot post pics on this site as I would show you a before and after.
Hope this helps.

Posted Tue 5 Mar 2019 02.13 by Trish (edited Tue 5 Mar 2019 02.17 by Trish) Hi. I'm Trish. I have had psoriasis on the palm of my right hand for 9 months.
I am so glad to have found this page! Is it true that P can be caused by stress? I guess it doesn't matter what caused it.... Only what helps it once you have it but within 6 months, I lost my mother and my 39 year old daughter to Brittle Type one diabetes and then I broke my arm shortly after getting this psoriasis on my right palm. When I was getting an area of skin cancer removed, I showed the dermatologist and he said I it was P. So I've had many different topical ointments and lotions, including coal tar and laser treatment ( which was a joke but left me with bright red circles wherever they touched my hand with the circular laser zapper thing. (Technical term 😁)
My skin is thin already but my hand currently has 7 cracks with more about to split open, is red and quite swollen and itches like crazy. I read on here that blueberries and tumeric can help so I bought both but it's only been 2 days that I've had them. Every lotion I try to us for moisturizer burns so badly I have to stick my hand under cold water which is undoing any help the moisturizers might do. I do leatherworking which further dries things out but I feel like I can't stop doing everything because of this psoriasis!

I am wondering if anyone with this has tried a low carb/low sugar diet? I have been doing it now for over a year and have a post above. My hands and feet are still clear. I have noticed when I eat a lot of carbs and sugars I flare up, but when I reduce it then it goes back down. I am wondering if anyone experienced the same thing. If you have not tried it then why not?

I have had plaque psoriasis on my fingers & on my feet, quite severe at times. My fingers used to be so sensitive, that they would crack quite easily. I have pictures from 2 years ago, that if I were to show them to you & photos of my hands & feet now, it would blow you away. My dermatologist told me in the spring of 2017 that my nails were dead & would never regrow. He was wrong. I have found relief with topical application of CBD oil. It's expensive - $90 for a 40 mil bottle in Canada, and it's not covered by drug plans. In a little over 1 year, I would say that it has cleared up my hands & feet by over 90%.
