UV treatment

Psoriasis big time

Hi, I was taking a hot bath for 15 mins with a chemical I can't remember then given UbV in a shower type stall afterwards. It was for a few seconds then over the weeks increased to around a minute then over a few months up to about 2 mins. The result was good, bath, uv and emolients. (free sun tan too!)I moved house and had to stop the treatment while finding a new consultant etc. It returned during my move and change of job, eventually got back on the program and made the condition even worse. My consultant has put me on a trail drug I think is called cyclosporin, normally used for transplant patients. In the first few weeks this reduced a lot of the plaque, especially on my hands and feet but now its not claering anymore. I'd love to hear from anyone who has success with the above.

Have suffered from psoriasis covering all areas of my body from a young age.

I have been suffering from psoriasis on almost all areas of my body (armpits, stomach, breasts, back and even private areas) since a very young age. My doctor has subrscribed me with many types of creams but nothing has ever worked so i began trying sunbeds but this only made it worse. It wasnt until recently that i have found a treatment routine that has almost entirely cleared all of psoriasis away. I use uvb light treatment every 2 days (i had to purchase my own as doctor would not provide this- adrov medical) along with this light therapy i consume 2 table spoons of coconut oil a day and apply dovobet ointment to my psoriasis every night, i also moisturise as often as possible using diprobase. I know this sounds like alot to do and very time consuming but the results are totally worth it. I am only 18 years old and havent been able to wear belly tops or short dresses or even go on holidays with my friends and wear a swimming costume but at last i feel so much more confident and my skin is looking better than ever, i strongly recommend trying this routine out to anyone who has suffered long term psoriasis and cannot seem to find a course of treatment that works. Hope this helps EmilyS :)x

I have had psorisos for about 2 years which came out of no where (21) now and I had full body. It affected me a lot I couldn't sit without

Hi I tried uv light treatment as I had severe psorisos all over my body although not bad in my scalp (touch wood it won't ever be ) I had 8 weeks then they up it to 10 wks altogether, three times a week - it cleared everywhere the results were amazing as I literally had no skin on my arms which was a nightmare as I work in a hosp and due to infections etc was effecting me greatly so meant I could return to work even after second week could notice results! Although it didnt clear up too well on my knees. I had my last treatment 23rd Dec 2015 & unfortantly for me it was returned not as bad but bad enough to be itchy and sore again. But don't let this dishearting you as they did not even think the uv would have much affect on me so I am greatful I got a lot of great results even if was for short time as places effected again is my knees were didn't work too well and my legs! I hope you have some amazing results and it stays away!

20 years

Having just completed an intensive course of UVB therapy at a hospital (which has been fantastic but is incredibly time consuming) I am looking to buy a narrowband UVB canopy to use at home to keep my psoriasis at bay. Can anyone recommend one? And is there any reason why I shouldn't let other psoriasis sufferers use it, once I've got it?

I have it

I am currently suffering from my second spell of p and the creams aren't working so I'm going to give this a go. How long each time do you go in for and how frequently do you go?

Hi, I've just started this treatment and finished my first week today. I have psoriasis pretty bad on my arms and elbows, including my knees and a few patches on my lower back. The arms and elbows are the worst. Keen to hear of any updates from those who have had this treatment.

I started light therapy 2 months ago. Currently on my 16tn treatment and go twice a week, Monday and Wednesday. Don't think there has been much improvement yet but it's hard to tell as the Enstilar I use (was told to use this as the flatter the plaques the better the light penetrates and does it's thing) obviously makes the psoriasis look better anyway..

I’ve started my treatment sept 2017. Had 3 sessions so far starting off at 23 seconds. Seems a little low considering I’m olive skinned but il wait it out and see what happens :)

I'm into my third week of treatment, going three times a week at 37 seconds. So far haven't noticed much change. Fingers crossed it works.

Went for my 19th session today and the nurse admitted it was surprising it's had no affect on my psoriasis yet so I'm a little down hearted about it. She did say that some people don't start responding until they get bigger doses of UVB and are in the cabin for 5 minutes or so. Having thought about it though I've never found sunlight does anything for my psoriasis. I got plenty of sun on my arms this summer and they were very nicely tanned but did nothing for my psoriasis.

Hey everyone. I have had psoriasis since the summer 2012 (guttae psoriasis caused by infection in my throat). I am lucky it cleared down to very limited patches (elbows, knees, a few other small ones here and there) although it still affects my lifestyle and confidence. I can't wear dresses and skirts without thinking people would notice my knees and patch on my knuckles makes everyone ask me whether I had just been in a fight... I am currently doing the UV therapy and as most of people who posted here I am finding it very useful. I am at 6th week and 3min 14sec, my bigger patches got flatter and don't flake up. I know it will all come back once the treatment is over but I am now at the stage when I can see my elbows for the first time in 5 years and they are beautiful!!!!! ;) I am desperate for tricks and tips that worked for others- diet, creams, herbal treatments... anything? Can you share what was useful for you to tame and calm down your psoriasis? What moisturisers do you use? I sense everyone here uses dovobet - what are your experiences ? Any response would be amazing!!!

Update of my UV treatment...Just finished week 3 and have 5 weeks left of treatment. Currently on 90 secs. My skin, especially my arms and elbows is looking the best it's ever been for years. The angry redness has pretty much disappeared but still slightly evident. For the first time in years, I can now comfortably and confidently wear a T-shirt instead of a long sleeve shirt without feeling embarrassed or shame. Feels like a huge relief. I'll update as time goes on.

Legs, arms, body, nails, scalp. Psoriatic arthritis. I hate it.

I’ve found uvb successful, initially I had it at the local hospital 3x a week but Xmas 2015 my husband bought be a fill length UVB narrowband lamp for Xmas. Brilliant - until he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer a year ago, now life has changed and my routine doesn’t always find time for the lamp and dovobet. It all seems relatively unimportant. My PSa consultant wants me try Methotrexate but I am scared of it because I lost thick layers of skin off the palms of my hands and the soles of my feet with sulphasaladine. Dunno what to do now.

I'm taking Novatin capsules once a day. They seem to be working well.
