Hi,
My consultant wants me to start on Methotrexate. I am also on Sulfasazine . Does anyone know if you could still get the Vaccine whilst on these drugs & would it mean I would go into the shielding group? I am suffering a lot just now and don’t know what to do for the best. Unfortunately my hubby is the shielding group so I need to make sure I am able to go out shopping etc.
Any advice would be welcomed.
Here is hoping for better times in 2021.

Hi Kate, so sorry to hear you're struggling. I would certainly recommend trying methotrexate. I've been on it for over 12 months and it made a huge improvement in my condition. Early in the pandemonic my rheumatology centre sent out a questionnaire which asked which meds I was on and in some cases the doses and each medication scored points which when added up gave your level of risk. I would suggest you get in touch with your GP or rheumatology nurse and ask them. Is there no chance of getting online shopping slots, especially as your husband is vulnerable? Don't jeopardize your chance of improvement by delaying a treatment that may help you. I really do hope that things improve for you very soon. Here's to a much better 2021! Rose

As a postscript, my marvellous husband suggested getting in touch with your local authority as they should be able to help you. Additionally, there may well be local folks volunteering to help those needing to minimise their covid risk by getting shopping, prescriptions etc. If you don't know of local volunteers, again your local authority should be able to point you in the right direction. Good luck!

Hi Kate.
Yes you can still get the vaccine when on MtX. Also yes you'll be in the sheilding group.
As for the shopping and daily living, just becareful when out and about. Keep your distance where your mask, as you should be doing anyway. Life has to go on.
MtX is a good drug in my opinion.
I also hope 2021 will be a better year, atleast there's some light at the end of the tunnel.

Hi guys
Has anyone since posting had their 1st and or 2nd covid vaccine?
I have had my 1st one and have noticed both my Psoriasis and Psoriatic arthritis have got a lot worse!
I took the decision myself, I am not a qualified doctor, to stop my medication as I felt if I was to catch Covid my body would have a better chance of being able to fight off covid without being on Leflunomide.
Despite having arthritis and Psoriasis I am usually fit and healthy, excluding the obvious! Very rarely get ill.
To cut a long story short.... my wife tested positive for covid just before 2021 and I am convinced I also had it. Fortunately I was OK and only had limited side affects, just felt tired for 3/4 days. I actually felt worse after my 1st vaccine and have noticed my joints and skin worse than ever before!
My plan is to go back onto some medication now I have had my 1st vaccine.
Has anyone else experienced something similar?
