2 sausage toes

I have had psoriasis for many years (49 year old woman) unfortunately also have a lot of other things wrong including ostio arthritis in my knee that means I am now on waiting list to have it replaced. I was sent to a rheumatologist about 5 years ago for other reasons and while there she blood tested me and reckoned I do not have psoriatic arthritis in knee since then over last year or so my two smallest toes on one foot keep having episodes where they swell up like sausages and become hot and rather painful for a week or so at a time then they go down and go normal for some weeks then repeat. does this sound like it could be psoriatic arthritis? its pretty minor- nothing like the pain in knee and I am not keen on going to the GP to whinge my toes sometimes swell up . if it is psoriatic arthritis as it is so minor can I just ignore it? I am embrassed by the list of things wrong and feel like a hyperchrondriac if pester dr with this if its nothing much. I have high blood pressure, bicuspid heart valve, had a couple of weird tia type things, fainting, arthritic knee, hypermobile joints and psoriasis= I take so many pills I rattle and do not need anything else lol

Hi Sunny - I can't answer your question, I'm afraid, but reading your last paragraph so reminded me of my husband that I feel like answering! I 'just' have psorasis, but he has that long list you mention and feels he rattles too - he gets gout (which is a form of arthritis) and his toe joints swell - he has medication for that works well for it - but I woudln't like to diagnose what you have - you'll have to ask your doctor in passing next time you are talking to him.

Swollen toes are called Dactyilitis and are common in Psoriatric arthritis. It was they way I was diagnosed.

This is how my PsA started. My 4th toe on my left foot swelled up one day and the pain from the joints in that toe and behind were absolute agony. The pain was so bad I thought I'd actually broken my foot or toe. I put off dealing with it though and thought I must have just walked funny or something and gave it a few weeks to settle and took plenty of naproxen. I went to my nurse practitioner and she thought it was a Morton's Neuroma and sent me to the podiatrist. The podiatrist took one look at my foot and asked if I had psoriasis by any chance and when I said yes, she went out the room and spoke to a colleague and they sent an urgent referral to Rheumatology. I was given an ultrasound there and then and it confirmed joint effusion and inflammation. All that from one little toe lol. I also have it in my elbow, shoulder and jaw but didn't know it was arthritis then. I put it down to stress, bad posture etc despite not being able to lift or bend my arms most days and the rheumatologist confirmed it was PsA. Sausage toes/fingers are a hallmark diagnostic factor for PsA.
