Bleeding after taking adalimumab but not on period
Posted Tue 10 Jan 2023 21.52 by FGPinheiro
I’ve been having bleeding (bright red) after taking adalimumab/Humira/Hyrimoz 40mg (weekly), but I’m not on my period, in fact I take the pill.
Did this happen with anyone else?

Hello FGPinheiro,
Still there?
I juste registered because I am experiencing exactly the same kind of troubles.
For 7months now, I'm constantly bleeding whenever I'm in an inflammatory period. To such a point that I've been out after a month of this. It stopped for a couple of months, but now it's back... We did an echo, but according to the doctor who did it, there's no explanation other than "treatments" (methotrexate and now tremfya -which is far much better). The thing is, intuitively speaking, I think it has more to do with the disease itself, as I experienced the first important bleeding "spree" just after we had to reduce methotrexate. And now, it occurs 4 weeks after the injection, give or take, always in combination with rashes, migraines, and so on.
Also, vaccines (which do save lives) trigger (among other things) the same sort of bleeding. The doctor said I was not alone in this case, but that we do not have the beginning of an idea as to "why".
It would be interesting to know more about this as it is exhausting and disquieting...
Did your bleeding stop?
Kind regards !

Hi, Al.
My bleeding stopped after I stopped taking the pill. In fact, the intensity of the pain I experienced due to PsA decreased after stopping the pill, so it’s been working really well for me.
Again, I’m taking adalimumab and not Tremfya nor methotrexate.
If I were you I’d insist with my doctor to find an answer or try a different treatment.
Wish you all the best!
Kind regards!

Hello again,
Thank you very much for your answer, it's nice to hear about improvements :). I do take the pill, too. But the first time I did (just months appart, with the same treatment, in an even larger dose ) I had no such trouble. It's true that many things need to be taken into consideration, for one thing, as the doctor says, psoriasis do not prevent your body from aging...
Changing treatment isn't an option. I very much need this biotherapy as arthritis is attacking my feet and I just can"t walk (among other things).
On the other hand, my gynecologist is adamant on taking the pill while under such treatments.
But, just like you seem to mention, I too had questions about interactions between the pill and rashes. What I know for sure, is that it does not improve my skin in any way. And that's why I quitted at first.
My intuition is, when the treatment is set, and the rashes controlled, this bleeding will cease.
But I also think that, maybe, taking the pill increases my body's sensibility to these inflammation tides. So, if it goes on, I will go back to my gynecologist with your testimony (thanks :)) and ask her about stopping the pill. I think it's worth trying at least...
Thanks again, all the best to you too !
