Hi. I have had psoriasis for about 15 years now I am 27. Recently had a baby 7 months ago which has hugely impacted my psoriasis it’s very angry and all over. I am applying diprosalic ointment and moisturisers as I am limited with breastfeeding. However I am hoping to stop bfeeding just so I can take stronger medication for my psoriasis such and methotrexate of cyclosporin. Just wondering is anyone else in my shoes?

Hiya, I ended up covered in psoriasis after pregnancy. As far as I’m aware, pregnancy suppresses your immune system so you don’t attack the foetus. As soon as you give birth your immune system kicks back in - and often creates major flares for psoriasis sufferers. I wanted to breast feed and I did so. But I was really worried about steroids getting in to my breast milk, so I only used moisturiser, despite having a huge flare. I was in a real mess to be honest. Anyway, I stopped breast feeding at five months to go in ciclosporin. I was very sad about it, but I was suffering physically and mentally and it was absolutely the right decision for me. Hope that helps!

Hey
My psoriasis flared up bad when I was pregnant and breastfeeding. My baby is 4 months and I am still breastfeeding, I have just finished my light treatment at the hospital, this has helped loads and save when breastfeeding.

Hi. I have also done light therapy it worked but it immediately came back. I have an appointment tomorrow I think I will probably go on cyclosporine. I am just so unsure

I can relate to your situation through my wife’s experience. She’s also had psoriasis for many years and it flared up significantly after our baby was born. She decided to stop breastfeeding so she could start on stronger medications like methotrexate. It was a tough decision because she wanted the best for our baby, but she also needed to get her psoriasis under control for her own well-being. Once she began the new medication, we noticed a significant improvement. Her skin started to clear up, and she felt much better overal

I’m so glad that worked for your wife. I was very close to going on methotrexate and having spoken with the dermatologist they recommended PUVA which is another form of light therapy. I wanted to exhaust all my options before going on the strong medication. Has she experienced any side effects with methotrexate and also how quickly did it clear up by.
