Overcoming Guttate Flare-Ups | Pso blog: GetLostGuttate

Bit of background: first guttate psoriasis flare-up towards the end of '21, after a particularly sore throat. I was put on a year-long waiting list for light therapy. In the meantime, I ditched steroid creams in favour of natural skincare, reset my diet and took supplements. By the time I got to the top of the waiting list (which actually took 18 months) I had completely cleared my skin. Around 6 months later- at the beginning of 2024- I came down with another sore throat (along with flu-like symptoms) after which my psoriasis returned. My light therapy 'slot' was kept open for me, and I start it on Friday. However, I'm going to choose to cover my face (you can wear a face shield or just goggles). My 'natural' remedies (Balmonds; Colloidal Oat Cream; Aloe Vera; Jojoba/Tea Tree Oil) as well as other products (such as Boots Dermacare Psoriasis Treatment Cream) don't seem to be shifting the several red marks around my mouth/chin. I'm usually clean shaven, but I shave less frequently (and at night time) to minimise the amount of time my red chin is on show :( Does anyone have successful experiences of face-based creams, lotions or similar? PS After the light therapy has cleared my skin, I've decided that I'm getting a tonsillectomy to hopefully remove the trigger- wish me luck!

Good luck, I wore a full face mask. Everyone’s psoriasis is different and some react well to sunlight. unfortunately light therapy made my psoriasis worse and other treatments never worked so I’m now on a biologic. I wish you success.

Psoriasis on and around the face suggests you may have photosensitive psoriasis, so it will be ‘interesting’ to see how your UVB treatment goes. When I had UVB treatment, everything improved for a while, then got much worse when a higher dose of UVB was applied. I was subsequently diagnosed with photosensitive psoriasis. I now use 50+ sunscreen every day on my face and my psoriasis there has cleared up, so it might be worth trying this.
