Cutting Out Sugar and Ultra Processed foods

Hi For over 20yrs i had psoriasis covering my legs, arms, back and stomach. I previously tried cutting out gltuen and dairy and that did not work. However, in Febuary 2024 i tried cutting out sugar (even fruit) and ultra processed foods. I started adding in fermented foods (kimchi/sauerkraut/tempeh) and extra fiber to my diet (legumes/nuts/seeds/different vegetables). Also increased spices like cumin/sumac/mixed herbs) and my psoriasis is 99% clear. The first month, my skis started clearing up but by month 4/5, thats when it was 99% clear. I definitely believe that by eating healthier and improving gut health is the key and it has helped. (The only fruit that i now eat is berries (blueberries/strawberries/blackberries), and kiwis.

Great news - v. happy for you. I also think diet is way more important than typically thought.

Totally agree, eating lots of green vegetables, only just a little chicken and no sugars or carby grains has helped me 👍 I will get rid of fruit now and see if I can improve my condition further. Thanks for the advice 👍

I first got P in the early 80s. Grandfather took me to a dr that gave me a steroid shot. Didn't see it again till early 20s. But it came back with a vengeance. Half of each arm radiating out from the elbows. Lower back. Center chest. And hair line. Treatments would work very temporarily. Then I started KETO. It's been gone for a year now. Smooth healthy skin everywhere.

Definitely agree. Diet makes a huge difference! I have found that staying away from processed foods and taking daily supplements of high strength omega 3, turmeric and a good multi-vit has turned things around for me! My psoriatic arthritis is pretty much pain free and where I would normally be peppered with plaques on my legs, back, face etc, I only have small patches now on my elbows. I can't say if that's all down to these, who knows?! I was diagnosed when I was 14/15, spent a couple of weeks in hospital trying to get on top of the spread at 16/17, spent my 20's covered but only really got to see a breakthrough in my late 30's when I was living abroad (lots of sunshine) and I started eating healthier and taking the supplements. I'm 47 now. Could be age, or hormones, or a combination, but I swear by them.

For what its worth, consider this - sugar overload (therefor massive spikes and cataclysmic drops in the natural chemical insulin) causes havoc with the mechanics of the body. Remember the 30-30 rule for a man and 30-20 for a woman - 30 grams of sugar max a day, 30 grams of saturated fats a day, 20 for a woman. Also don't have hot showers/baths - as soon as I have a hot shower - skin complaints and dandruff, I believe the hot water wicks away the natural oils barrrier the skin has. The cold windy weather does the same to0, so its barrier cream on hands every day - Nutragena (the Norwegian Hand Cream!) works for me
