UVB lamps

Hi, this is my first post on here and l’m hoping someone might be able to help. I’ve purchased a secondhand MBS 5 tube lamp for my Guttate Psoriasis. Just having a flare up as l have been ill and can’t wait for the hospital. Unfortunately there is no instruction booklet and was wondering if anyone had one they’d be able to email instructions. I’d be very grateful. I’m winging it at the moment. Or advice of what l should be doing. Thank you

As someone with the same condition I also have a uv lamp but have been lazy with treatment and have decided to just let the summer sun do the work for me. Suffice to say, this is the only excerpt I could find in regards to a manual: Narrowband UVB light therapy involves exposing the skin to the light for very short periods of time. Typically, this exposure will be between 30 seconds and a maximum of 4 minutes, 2-3 times each week, typically seeing results within 4 to 8 weeks. I can attest to the lamps being powerful so I’d advise doing patch tests on different parts of the body as no two areas are alike and can handle longer exposure times. For instance, the inner side of the upper arm burns faster than the forearm. I also have a handheld device so I can get directly close to my skin and thus shortening the time required for treatment but also increasing the risk of skin burning. It will depend on how you use the lamp and if it’s at close range or you are merely sitting in front of it. The best course of advice I can offer is start slow as advised above and see how you react. Then you can slowly increase the time to find your max tolerance but do not exceed that 4 minutes. It is a concentrated form of UV and there is no further benefit to longer exposure time unless you are very far away from the light Hope this helps

Thank you for your advice. I’m having to stand in front of my lamp and because of the stand it is on it makes you about a foot away from the lamps. Would be better over the bed but unfortunately the stand won’t go under my bed. I’ve now gone up to 40 seconds and had no reaction so will be going for 50 next time and just keep increasing. I’ve also just purchased a handheld device and waiting for it to arrive. My psoriasis is very bad on my scalp so l’m hoping l will have the same success as when l had the UV treatment in hospital I have been having a read and on different places it says using for longer than 4 minutes but l shan’t be going anymore than that. It’s too much of a risk.
