Hi I’m having really bad flare ups and my psoriasis is the worse it has ever been, nothing is helping it! I have seen online about bathing in oatmeal or baking soda and wondering if anyone has tried this x

Hi Angey I haven't tried bathing in oatmeal or baking soda, but I do add a mug of Epsom salts to a bath of water. Twenty years ago, I discovered the benefit of dead sea mineral mud on psoriasis, purely by accident, during a spa treatment on a cruise. At the time my skin was worse than it is now and the mineral mud, whilst messy to apply and wash off, resulted in smoother psoriasis plaques. If using the mud, I'd recommend applying it to the skin from the neck downwards whilst standing in a shower tray. After the mud has dried, then switch on the shower to rinse the mud from your skin. These suggestions are palliative, and I hope they provide some relief. The results of a survey by myskin dot org, discoveries & publications page, shows: WHAT TRIGGERED YOUR PSORIASIS FOR THE FIRST TIME - STRESS 34% WHAT MAKES YOUR PSORIASIS WORSE - STRESS 68% Consideration should be given to what may have triggered your psoriasis, and what makes it worse. Keeping a health diary may be helpful to document particular events and experiences to identify if there is a link to these and your flare ups. They may not be immediate. My own experience of flare ups is they happen about two weeks after a stressful event.

Thank you so much, I did hear about the Epsom salts. I ended up with laryngitis 8 years ago and it was really bad that’s when I started noticing psoriasis (didn’t think that could happen) other the years it has got worse and because i have a colon disease my immune system is bad! Then I went through a domestic and obviously my stress levels were all over the place but I’m really suffering now! It’s the worse it’s ever been, the dermatologist told me I have 4 different types 🤔 I will try anything lol

Hi Angey66681 - I’m so sorry things are really hard just now. It’s upsetting, isn’t it? I’m having a flare up just now, too. I know what you mean - stress really impacts. Also my psoriasis started after recurrent bad throat infections about 15 years ago. I wonder if mine is bad just now with all the central heating in the cold weather and the extremes in heat/cold. I sometimes use Dead Sea Salts in my bath. I think it helps soften and descale the plaques, too. Do let us know anything you discover x
