Hi Pippin
I used acitretin for over 20 years, until about three years ago. I found it ok to a certain extent, never perfect in eliminating lesions, and requiring usually topical steroids to support. I occasionally had bouts of UV treatment also. I usually said that acitretin was effective to about 70%, so better at times, and not so effective at others, eg in winter.
Around 3-4 years ago, I suffered a major flare up in lesions (which I think was down to picking up an infection). This affected my arms, significantly around the elbows and upper arms, and the waistband area of my torso, which was particularly a problem as it was affected by clothing much more, eg belts.
As a result of these flareups, medication was switched, firstly to methotrexate and now biologics.
Hope this helps
