Hi I have just joined and am also type 2 diabetes. Have just started on metformin a month ago My psoriasis is improving almost afraid to say don’t know if the is because of the metformin or the fact I have cut sugar out of my diet and given up alcohol completely don’t miss it now at all will keep you updated also drink lots of water. Good luck

Thank you for reply , well I'm half way there I don't drink at all alcohol I mean 😅 I probably don't drink as much water as I should and have cut the carbs back but my flare is messing with my blood sugar last week my fasting blood was 18.6mmol and I had very little to eat night before and nothing to eat or drink when I did that reading , I have noticed when I eat anything at all my pustules are irritated and risen , it seems when I'm eating my flare worsens so the reason for me asking the question ......I have since read that doctors aren't keen on using Metformin if you have a GPP flare which I do and since 23rd January, I think lack of sleep with the itching and burning is possibly causing more inflammation and could be messing with bloods , I have Dermatology 2nd May so see what happens , need a med with a kick to calm this flare , best of luck to you .

I forgot to say doctor prescribed dovonex which I use once a day it’s not a:steroid But I have used it for years just keeps it under control but doesn’t help much. Also use zero base for moisturiser. I try to stick to chicken and salmon and lots of veg and fruit am losing weight which I think always helps My psoriasis doesn’t itch so that’s good Don’t eat red meat I don’t know if that helps Hope things get better for you

Hiya again , I'm not sure what Dermatology will come up with , 2016 I was diagnosed with Pustular psoriasis but the GPP part is what pushed them to do a biopsy and think that's how they knew , it's quite a worry that I've spoken to 3 doctors since January and a nurse but only one doctor had heard of it , because its rare it doesn't seem to be acknowledged by medical profession even when it's our biggest organ that's in trouble .
I admit I will be trying different things to eat now , I'm not entirely sure about zero sugar ......it is hard-core that , 🤔 thanks again Ellie

Hi I keep trying to think what might help I find sugar in lots of things but cut out the obvious ones cakes biscuits sweets etc honestly I don’t miss them now. Also look up nightshades and try to avoid them if you can they can be a trigger. Dr Pagano has written several books which I found interesting and helpful hope this helps

Hi Ellie , glad you mentioned about nightshades , I looked it up .....I knew potatoes were a carb , I'm not big on chips but love roast , baked or boiled potato and I try to reduce intake however I didn't know that tomatoes and peppers are a trigger , here I'm thinking I'm eating healthy because it's a veg also use paprika although I'm diabetic I do enjoy particular foods which now I will need to do in moderation because they contain those ingredients......love Italian, Chinese and Indian, oooooft that's my takeaway up in the air , it's weird cos I really don't eat alot , I only have the 3 meals a day and only do takeaway usually a Friday but I cook and can be guilty of being to generous with my portion of spagbol , I'm glad you brought this to my attention and shocked that I didn't even consider these ingredients could be causing issues because I'm only focusing on one thing at a time , usually the diabetes but by sounds of it both conditions are enhanced because of what I thought was good for one condition was setting off the other 😆 can't win

No your fine honest I'm glad you pointed this out , I won't starve Ellie 😄 I honestly appreciate your input to offer advice and the reason we use these forums is exactly what you have offered me ......I did have a BIG salad for dinner with couple potatoes and small pork pie , the only fish I like is fresh peppered Mackrell, I make soup to very occasionally, got diabetic nurse on Monday HbA1c results and blood tests , hoping this flare being GPP is taken into consideration though instead of them thinking it's out of control but I think the markers would be accurate.
4 x cream crackers & low fat spread cheese
2x handfuls unsalted mixed nuts
That's no bad wee snack
Did you have tummy trouble when you started using Metformin? And how soon do you think you noticed improvement on psoriasis?

Hope I was able to help. Sweet potatoes and oily fish. Good.. my skin was a bit up and down but I didn’t always eat healthy my sugar level was high when I had my diabetes check so I cut all unhealthy food and noticed a difference after a few weeks on metformin hope it works for you. Had no side effects but made sure I took them with meals or shortly after drink plenty of water🤞

Thanks for getting back Ellie , need to try sweet potato and think maybe I should be eating more fish and probably soup , what bread do you eat ? I eat white bread cos I get fed up with wholemeal.
A guy I worked with told be about Metformin causing stomach issues but he was partial to a bottle of red wine every day because he read that red wine was good for diabetics......don't know if it's true .
He was probably the only diabetic I knew that didn't have psoriasis, just a bit of rosacea.
Do you have an arrangement with Dermatology dept or do you have to go through your GP ? The reason I'm asking is I've been asking my GP for 2 years to go back to Dermatology and although I am going back on 2nd May I will be saying to them that this GPP flare may not have occurred if I had access like a drop in because as I said to you , doctors aren't familiar with my psoriasis so they can't really medicate if they're not clued up on it , I'm certain if I had the proper treatment as required at that time , around 2nd week of January I noticed broken skin about size of a 5p coin on my right shin towards my ankle so I used my steroid cream on it but broken doubled in size within couple of day so went to pharmacy and they said not to use steroid cream on broken skin so I stopped and that was it .....full blown GPP , when I told doc , he said I shouldn't have stopped using cream , it's been the withdrawal that's caused such a bad flare and I can use it because of that type of psoriasis.

I am not familiar with your type of psoriasis I have plaque psoriasis but hope my input helps I don’t see a dermatologist I tried light treatment which helped but returned when I stopped. I have read a lot about it and find drinking water. Limiting my tea coffee I use herbal teas tumerick is good green tea with lemon. But not everyone’s taste nightshades are not good have got that from several sources You really have to re-think your diet blueberries are good It’s soo important to reduce your sugar it’s difficult when you get conflicting advice Sorry about your take-away 😔
