Psoriasis On The Skin Photoshoot

Earlier this year, we hosted our ‘Psoriasis on the Skin’ photoshoot. The campaign was a tremendous success. Kaye Ford, award-winning photographer, who shot the photos specialises in portraying unretouched ‘real skin’ and did a wonderful job in creating a comfortable atmosphere for everyone. Given the nature of the condition, this was very important to our participants.

In the lead up to the shoot, we were invited to discuss the campaign on BBC Radio Northampton, encouraging local participants to get involved and raising awareness about psoriasis as a whole. Lots of people contacted to let us know the segment was valuable to them and were keen to get involved in the shoot.

One of the main driving factors for the shoot is the lack of ‘real-life’ images of psoriasis available in medical literature and textbooks. Member feedback and the well-received launch of our updated "What is Psoriasis?" leaflet demonstrated the importance of the use of images of psoriasis in resources.

The shoot, which took place at our head office in Northampton and at the Northampton General Hospital Dermatology department, captured close-up images of psoriasis, as well as interactions with healthcare professionals.

We understand the importance of visual representation for people living with psoriasis, and how the appearance of psoriasis can vary across different skin types, tones, ages and genders. The images taken at our shoot will help individuals to distinguish between different types of psoriasis and showcase the variety in its' presentation.

We are excited to use these photos in multiple initiatives moving forward, including the launch of our new leaflet series, during Psoriasis Awareness Week 2024. At current, we have received lots of positive feedback when displaying our ‘What is Psoriasis’ and ‘Our Achievements’ resources at information days and events.

One of our participants, Tasia, features on the front cover of ‘Our Achievements 23' expressed the importance of the shoot in her own personal journey with psoriasis.

Below, you can view a selection of images from the shoot and hear the thoughts of our participants about their experience.

Thank you to all those who got involved!

"Thank you, The Psoriasis Association, for giving me the opportunity to share my story and take part. They are a fabulous organisation dedicated to supporting those of us who live with this condition.”

“This is why I was so happy to see The Psoriasis Association holding a photoshoot yesterday to capture psoriasis on real skin. On people of all ages, skin tones and genders, to be featured in their resources. Such a modern and inclusive way of thinking on their behalf.”

“Great morning meeting you all. What a fab group you all are, you were being very supportive and looked after us very well, we really enjoyed the photoshoot”
