Emily's Story

After being diagnosed in 2022, Emily decided to get to the root cause of her psoriasis flares.

I started getting psoriasis patches in Summer 2022 after a bout of Strep throat and going on antibiotics. It started on my lower legs and elbows and I went to the doctors in early 2023 and they gave me Enstilar which helped to keep it at bay but never got rid of it.

I decided at the start of this year to stop with the cream as I had researched a lot about trying to cure psoriasis naturally and looking into the root cause. I suffered with tonsillitis and ear infections as a child and took antibiotics at least 5 times a year until I was 8. I also had bad acne as a teenager and took low dose antibiotics for those and this led me to believe I had an imbalance in my gut. So I stopped the Enstilar in January and my legs and arms really flared up. The psoriasis spread and was incredibly inflamed, red, dry and itchy. This really affected my mood and I was incredibly low throughout this time.

This continued for about 4 months and then I tried light therapy in April until July. This helped a lot and on my arms it had virtually cleared. My legs still weren't great but a lot better. However, as soon as I finished light therapy my psoriasis flared up again, even worse than before and spread to cover most of my lower legs. My mood worsened and I felt hopeless about the situation and felt it would never improve.

In September, I went to see a Naturopath to see what they said and they suggested it could be a candida overgrowth in my gut. They suggested a probiotic and some natural antifungal tablets. I also changed my diet and lowered my intake of gluten, dairy and sugar. After about 4 weeks my skin started to improve. The redness and flakiness went down and it stopped spreading. Its now in a much better place, it can still itch but there's no flakiness and redness which is 100 times better than it was in the summer.

I have attached 2 photos of my legs, the first was taken in August and the second in December. The second one shows how the redness has gone down and now is mostly just scarring. I have also attached one which was after light therapy finished.

I would really like to share my story to help anyone as psoriasis can be incredibly debilitating and frustrating. I feel there isn't enough research into the root causes of autoimmune diseases and actually people could find reprieve by looking into this further.

We strongly advise that you check with a medical professional before taking any supplements or probiotics or making any changes to your diet in any way.
